Sam Cooke

Post by smige2 » Thu Mar 28, 2019 8:01 pm

I've recently discovered the brilliance of Sam Cooke, and I understand from reading some interviews that you're a fan too. I recall you mentioning a biography of Cooke that you highly recommended - please could you remind me which bio it was?

Also, out of interest, what are your favourite songs of Cooke's, and are there any other soul singers you'd recommend checking out?

Thanks!

No idea what Frank will say but Marvin Gaye jumps into my mind.

I read the Peter Guralnick one, I think. Great writer. I love Sam Cooke; "One Night Stand At Harlem Square" is one of the best live records of all time, for me. Love the whole thing.

I like a lot of Otis Redding, and yeah Marvin Gaye is ace too.
Shows? All of em.
