Double Albums

I know you put a lot of thought and care into making albums - especially with the tracklisting and album length etc

But with EKMB and TDH both having a normal and deluxe version it made me wonder about your thoughts on double albums and if you would ever do one?

Maybe a rock one side / acoustic the other kind of thing ?

Did you watch the Google Hangout. frank and Nigel discussed double albums, and we're trying to come up with a good one, as opposed to one that would have been just as good if it were a single disc album. Don't think they came up with one. I've been trying to think of one since.

what were the options they came up with?

Slighty off topic I would love a live album, as long as they cut it correctly so the build up to the song was with the song in question and not at the back end of another which seems to be the norm, have never understood that

Personally I quite like The River as a double album although I believe that it is not a popular opinion

almost all double albums i can think of (including the river) would have been better as single records, in my opinion.

White album is the only one I can think of. Biffy's new one for example

its harder to produce good double albums nowadays. in the old days, you had ca 20 minutes on
each vinyl side. so you needed ca 80 minutes of music for a double album and this fits on
one cd now. i think even the white album is in total only 60 minutes.

On cold roses, it is but I believe if they wanted they could have fitted it all on one disc

I guess I asked as I find it an interesting concept. I think it's very possible to make a good double album but the marketing and promotion around it would be difficult.

And I believe radiohead did pretty much the same with kid a and amnesiac. In that example kid a was an amazing album amnesiac sounded like a b sides throw away.
