Top 5 of 2011

Post by talkingheads » Mon Dec 05, 2011 12:22 am

I know 2011 isn't over, but the grammy nominees have already been picked and that's what really matters.

mine in alphabetical order:

Andrew Jackson Jihad- Knife Man
I've adored this guys for a while now but when I saw them in ottawa I was really blown away. Most of the crowd didn't know who they were and didn't give a shit about them but they put on a hell of a show regardless but they put on a hell of a show regardless. I still think can't maintain is their best album but damn this is great stuff.

Frank Turner- England Keep My Bones
(super original pick) Love Ire & Song may have better songs and I relate more to Sleep is for the Week but I still think EKMB is his best work of date. I feel like is fully realizes what he was trying to do with Poetry of the Deed but with much more consistency...and I am disappeared and redemption are just the best.

Future Islands- On the Water
Kind of like 80's post punk synth stuff mixed with frightened rabbit and just the most unique voice.

Radiohead- The King of Limbs
It's electronic music that isn't dubstep!!!...but ya Radiohead are have kind of been "the band" for nearly two decades and they are still not calling it in.

Tom Waits- Bad As Me
Rock and fucking Roll. The fact Tom is still alive is incredible the fact he still puts out great music I want to listen to is nearly beyond belief.

So what has everyone else loved? I imagine AJJ and Frank will be featured highly along with Ben Marwood and Chuck Ragan (both put out quality records)...hip hop sucked this year.

Yep, I got it as a download from their website and I've got a feeling it's out on vinyl as well.
