I feel I've become a lot more confident since discovering Frank's solo stuff in 2007.
Getting more confident in my playing ability as well, playing some fucking brilliant gigs people on here like Adams Boucher and Bennett, Oxygen Thief and Ben Marwood, with gigs coming up later in the year with Jim Lockey & The Solemn Sun, Neil Morris, Dave Hughes and Ciaran Lenehan.
Cringe-worthy moment over.
Cheers Frank.

there's a lot, but i'd say the biggest one is fake problems. they're one of my favorite bands now.

Dive Dive and Ben Marwood for me, and probably loads more that I've just not got round to listening to yet...

I separate my musical tastes in two eras. The stuff I listened to before I heard Frank's music, and the stuff I now listen to. I consider my discovery of Frank's music as the great awakening of my musical taste.
Neil Young, Rolling Stones, Flogging Molly, and Nirvana are pretty much the only pre-Frank musicians that I'm not ashamed of.
The entire Punk genre.
Gaslight Anthem
Ben Marwood
Chuck Ragan
Fake Problems
A greater appreciation of Springsteen and Dylan
I'm sure a ton more.

This is basically the exact same situation for me. Before Frank I listened to -RyanC wrote:I separate my musical tastes in two eras. Dashboard Confessional
All Time Low
Yellowcard (I still kinda listen to them for nostalgia)
Mayday Parade
Ugh, I'm actually having trouble remembering before then.
So thank you Frank. You drastically changed my musical taste for the better.
Oh...I'll give him that actually...he was the first person who told me about them~Katt wrote:Frightened Rabbit.

Spot on - this is something I'm always going on about to friends who don't know him (which is pleasantly occurring less and less often these days). Great idea for a thread, too.RyanC wrote:I separate my musical tastes in two eras. The stuff I listened to before I heard Frank's music, and the stuff I now listen to. A friend got me into Million Dead when I was a teenager, which unfortunately meant much of the meaning behind the songs went well over my head at the time. However, it meant that when I heard him on Mike Davies show whilst working in a weatherspoons fluffy kitten in 2005 (the only positive point in that job - and don't eat the food), I perked up my ears more than I otherwise might have.
Luckily he was playing my local venue in a month or so's time, where he recommended Beans on Toast and Nambucca - possibly the most crucial point in my musical enlightenment, as its occasional all-dayers are where I went from intrigued to head-over-heels in love with independant singer-songwriters and acoustic/folk music.
Anyway, the long and short of it is that I owe Frank for a huge part of my music collection. The ones that spring to mind right now include:
Beans on Toast
Ben Marwood \
Dave Hughes - the three of which lovely people have since played several house-gigs of mine
Oxygen Theif /
Bruce Springsteen (from a half-hour discussion that resulted from myself and a friend just wanting to say hi, in true gushing fanboy-style)
The Dawn Chorus
Jay Jay Pistolet
Laura Marling
Florence and the Machine
Mumford and Sons
Six Nation State
Kevin Tuffy
Noah & the Whale
There's bound to be a load I've missed, but if I could offer one piece of advice to any Frank fan looking for more fantastic down-to-earth artists, it's to get yourself over to The Wheelbarrow (http://www.wheelbarrowlondon.com/). It's the third incarnation of Nambucca, and the second I move back to England I'm going down myself.
Sorry for a long post, but it's been a really long time since I checked out these forums, and it's one of the few places I know saying this stuff doesn't come across (quite as) obsessive.
Oh, and Frank - thank you.

I've always like rather good music, so liking franks was no surprize, but through Frank found Beans on toast who, obviously is awesome, but then turned my brother onto Beans and now my brothers musical taste is actually becoming half decent. He was listening to real shit before and still does, but at least there are a few good people in there now!

I'd rather be the one who loves than to be loved and never even know.
nothing as of yet, although I'm getting ever more tempted to listen to springsteen (have somehow avoided) because of ft.
it's also prevented me from listening to the smiths, because I don't think the smiths will be good for me psychologically from what I hear about them in Reasons.

and drive all night 'till the break of dawn
Frightened Rabbit
The Hold Steady
Jonah Mantranga
I also got into The National and The Tallest Man On Earth through them being mentioned on here, so those responsible pat yourselves on the back.
Three of the above five I would consider to be some of my favourite bands ever, so cheers. They have however opened my eyes to the fact that comparitively, Frank is a bit shit
EDIT: You can add Antlers to the list of being discovered through the board too.

I was just thinking the same, or I was going to make a crude sexual innuendo, but hey, I wont bother now, and believe me, it's strange for me not to take any chance I get to make an innuendoHelium wrote:Everytime I see this thread I read it as "Frank turned me on, too"

About the only 2 artists I discovered through FT are Million Dead and Chris TT.
I also have to say as well, that Frank's solo version of "Smiling at strangers" is so much better than the Million Dead Version.
