Jetpacks, Monorails and Rayguns

Post by NickSouthampton » Fri Jan 29, 2016 3:23 pm

At the end of September last year I got up in the middle of the night along with thousands of other people to see the red super moon. It was rather magical and I decided to make a date for the next one, it turns out that it is not due until 2033. I then wrote a song about how the world might be in 2033 called “Jetpacks, Monorails and Rayguns” In December I recorded it with James on Piano and it's now on Spotify for your listening pleasure https://play.spotify.com/album/2gJk8yAUnIDTU1jA8jdeep
A week or two later I found out that the Talking Heads music venue, home of the Candle Club mentioned in the song will not be there in 2033, it’s closing at the end of the month so we will be having a wake this Sunday 31st January.
Luckily Talking heads will be moving to a new home. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/1418849 ... ub_to_move

The video for the track is pretty retro as all SiFi predictions tend to be.

Hi. I enjoyed that.

Reminded me of Pulps Bar Italia and in a strange way one of the Jarvis sketches that Rob Newman used to do on the Mary Whitehouse experience.

I cant wait to update this part of the forum with my new my musical project. Probably wont be until Q3 of this year though.

Thanks for listening. Interesting reaction. Love the Pulp comparison, not sure about the Rob Newman's "Jarvis". I find him very funny but I'm not sure if I want to be seen as quite that deviant. :)

Do you mean the look in the video? Since the song is about how the future might turn out, I thought I would give it a retro look since all predictions of the future always look ultra retro in retrospect. Just look at an old "Tomorrow's world."

The next song I'm recording is "when I was Immortal" perhaps I should resurrect the look for that but set it in a police cell. I have a friend who has two police cells attached to his house, I could ask him.

I've enjoyed reading your blog, particularly the piece about crap earphones supplied with phones. Why do people spend 500 quid on a phone and then accept such rubbish. I use a pair of pretty cheap (40 quid) over ear headphones, don't look so pretty and probably not up top your Hi-Fi standards but 10 times better than the ones that came with my phone.

I look forward to hearing about your new project. Have you got any older stuff I can listen to before then?

My old guise was Amongst The Pigeons. and some of the songs feature the likes of Frank, Chris T-T and Ben Marwood.
The link is below. The new stuff is a lot more ... well wait and see.
