Modern Highway Blues

Post by Nico » Tue Jul 16, 2013 7:22 pm

Hey, here is another song, hope you like it :)

Modern Highway Blues
I was speedin on the highway and the wind blew mighty strong,
the radio played Johnny and his good old country song,
then I heard a crashin the next thing I thought was "Wow,
my car looked five times better, before I killed that cow"

Her owner had no mercy, but big arms like Christian Bale,
"Hobo boy chose wisely: To the graveyard or to jail?"
"Sir, I give you money, it´s right there beneath the seat"
I thanked God that I´m a liar while I fled to the next street.

There I stopped to take a breath and I hollered "Hey,
you must be Mr. Keene, president of the NRA,
He stared at me for seconds, then he shouted "Son,
you´re not a true christian, unless you have six guns"
But he sounded not that selfless and I was in a rush,
so I told him that: true christians are those who always flush."
He directly draw a weapon and pointed it at me,
I ran away while I yelled out: "I thought the speech was free."

The last one I did see on that goddamn trip,
was a man they called Columbus, who came of his ship,
He asked me: How you doin?" I immediately said : Fine.
Then he asked if this was India and I lied the second time.

Now I´m driving on the road again, direction still unknown,
but the road is my compagnion and the highway is my home.

I really like that.

I grew up in Mississippi and it sounds very twangy in my head, like George Jones or Merle Haggard or something.

thank you very much I don´t know any of those two guys, but I am happy that you like it but what does "twangy" mean? I did not find a good explanation for it

Um...that's difficult to translate? And my German is shithouse, limited mostly to remembered phrases that came from my grandma when she was mad at me.

It's a very open guitar sound, but also steel guitars can sort of sound that way. It's the over all feel of old-fashioned country music that I mean.
