Hasn't happened yet, but also I keep skipping over Song for Josh. Lost a friend that way last year. Gonna be tough to hear live.
Re: Your first cry to a FT song
Father's Day used to get me after my Dad died, especially the reworked version (with double bass etc) that made an appearance a few years ago.
Makes me smile now thinking about I'd often end up getting separated from friends at gigs, but whenever Frank played the opening chords of FD, they'd reappear in the form of a hand on my shoulder/affectionate (I'm assuming) slap round the back of the head.

It was tough for me that first time live (ever) at The Electric Factory in Philadelphia show #1507. But maybe because more time has passed since May 2012, & perhaps because I've listened to the album in full several times, when I heard it live at Reading last week in the middle of a fabulous solo set (I'm not the only one who was there who thinks it was probably one of the best performances of his we've seen) I was ok. The positioning in the set was good 8 songs in after upbeat well known singalongs & followed by I Am Disappeared, which is a personal favourite of mine, and then The Road, and onto the end. The set, the crowd & the atmosphere at a live gig helps a lot to carry the listener through is what I think now looking back a week.DanaStacy wrote:Hasn't happened yet, but also I keep skipping over Song for Josh. For me it was Long Live the Queen. Skipped it for nearly 6 months after the first listen. Lost a friend not to sickness but to war, and I know he would have wanted us to 'dance for one more of us'.
Other songs sometimes bring me to tears in those quiet personal moments when life seems to completely relate to the song. That is what I love so much about Frank's music, so personal you can't help but feel it.

Re: Your first cry to a FT song
Journey of the Magi holds a special place for me, because I moved away from all my family in England to come to the US. I love that refrain:
"He sang "I could have lived and died an Egyptian prince,
I could have played safe,
but in the end the journey's brought joys that outweigh the pain."
Though obviously.. I'm no Egyptian prince. Lol But coming here wasn't easy, involved an abusive husband, and leaving all my family etc, so this one really touches me.

Re: Your first cry to a FT song
Yesterday, feeling pretty upset over drifting away from most of my old friends, St. Christopher is Coming Home just hit home. Although hearing Love Ire & Song in Manchester earlier this year came close.
Seeing him at Reading this year, playing Song For Josh and Isabel solo... that was pretty intense too.

Re: Your first cry to a FT song
I only first saw Frank live a couple of weeks ago in Nashville, and at his 'secret' acoustic show before the main event, he played Redemption, and I lost it at the end, with the final "I don't think I can do this". This is probably why the music resonates with me so much, because I often have the self doubt displayed by this song, but always end up looking at the world a little better afterwards.
About two hours later, at the main show, he played "To Absent Friends" and I could not control myself.

Trying to figure out how many times I'll have to listen to Song for Josh before I stop tearing up and I didn't even know Josh.

I'm alway close to tears when they play The Way I Tend To Be (which became probably my fav), but as he played it in a solo version in Berlin. I was crying like a puppy and I'm not sorry for it. It was so beautiful! <3

I always had a bit of a moment at the end of Polaroid Picture at the last shows.
The same goes for the entirety of I Am Disappeared.

I can't remember which one came first but for me it was either Better Half or Plain Sailing Weather.
Man I cried hard....It came right after a tough break up too so yeah that did it
