That's an awkwardly syncopated rhythm to chop onions to. I'd end up slicing my finger off.marowak wrote:Nashville Tennessee - whilst chopping onions.

very nearly bawled last night to the new one, Caroline?
Re: Your first cry to a FT song
…prufrock… does it for me - every time!
Re: Your first cry to a FT song
First was probably "Jet Lag"... I also had a "16 hour" time difference between myself and the guy I was hung up on at the time.
Hardest cry was to "The Way I Tend to Be" while flying back across the country from visiting the guy who swept me off my feet last year and knowing I wouldn't see him again for another two months. I'm still incredibly grateful that I had an empty seat next to me that night, even though (surprise, surprise), I'm also no longer with him. I suppose as long as I continue this unadvisable habit of falling for guys who live nowhere near me, I'll always have a few Frank songs to comfort me.
And I don't cry often, so I'd say those are both pretty notable.

Brevity is not my forte.

Re: Your first cry to a FT song
God, a couple years back I got broken up with over a text message while in the waiting room at the doctor's office to get some antibiotics for strep throat. I was sick as a dog and absolutely heartbroken. Screamed and cried my heart out when Worse Things Happen At Sea came on while I was driving back home. Probably not the safest driving conditions, but very cathartic.
Re: Your first cry to a FT song
This song was written about my sister (not really but you know what I mean). On her birthday about 8 years after she died I was thinking about her and close to tears while driving. Put my new CD on and these words came pouring out. I didn't really know Frank then but found it amazingly spooky and uplifting that he was singing about her attitude to life. Makes me think of that journey every single time I hear it.Evan wrote:Long Live The Queen. She was my friend too. I have only recently been able to not cry when I hear it. It still gets me though.

Re: Your first cry to a FT song
I can remember personally crying to;
- Fathers Day - (I really was able to connect to this on a personal note)
- Better Half (I remember hearing this straight after a break up and my ex found a new bloke, killed me at the time).
- Casanova Lament - (Another relationship I knew was coming to an end but was waiting for it to end)
- Redemption Song.

Re: Your first cry to a FT song
I cried to Long Live The Queen. I'm sure a lot of people have, but it's very special to me as I'm a pretty stoic person- I've never cried at any other song, or any film/tv show. Ok, it was at Reading festival after a lot of weed, beer and sleeplessness that I wasn't used to, but there is just something about that song, the sheer honesty and truth in facing death.
Though I'd probably say I get more emotional now listening to Tell Tale Signs. I have no idea why, I've never self harmed or even really had a relationship like the one described, but that I feel like I relate to that song better than any.

If you're oh so fucking different, who cares what you have to say?

Close call between 'Father's day' and 'My kingdom for a horse'.
Most recent would have to be 'Glorious you' and 'Song for Josh'.

Re: Your first cry to a FT song
So is this a society of secret song-cryers? If so, I've got a whole playlist to help me get sniffin'-the-tears. I find that the Stones and Lucero give the biggest bang for the buck. The Stones have two whoppers on "Black and Blue" while almost anything from Lucero's "Tennessee" album will do it for me. Throw in some Eva Cassidy and I'm a complete mess. This is the loneliest song I've ever heard.

Relax. This won't hurt.

Until today I would have looked at this thread and thought, "You bunch of pussies."
However, I now have my own answer: Song for Josh...

Whatever you do, don't listen to Song For Josh on a crowded train, certainly not first listen.
Ooof. I had a crowd of concerned wellwishers around me.

Long Live the Queen and Anymore are tied for my first cry, I think.
Cried hardest to Plain Sailing Weather, though.
