"Oh Brother" genius!

Post by ccstuck » Tue Jun 25, 2013 5:41 pm

So me and my friend have recently been slightly re-obsessed with Tape Deck Heart, playing it whenever we get a chance at school.

And we noticed an amazing piece of songwriting in the background riff after Frank sings "And I knew the chords to Smells Like Teen Spirit"!

It's a much slowed down excerpt of the main riff in the verses from Smells Like! It was a fantastic moment of grabbing a guitar, playing the riff and just laughing and clapping for the next 5 minutes until we calmed down. :)

I just wanted to express my joy at finding this out and it has made me appreciate Frank and his music even more than I originally did.

Keep on bringing us these amazing songs, lads! ;)

*Noticed this riff on the first play of the song*

*Remembers Nirvana releasing Teen spirit*

*feels really fucking old now* :-(
So if ever a man should ask you for your business or your name, tell him to go and fuck himself and tell his friends to do the same.

I noticed this too. Very clever! It's this attention to detail on the arrangements on TDH that I love.

Anyone know what effect is being used on the solo in Oh Brother?

It is one of my favourites. The beginning is genius as well. It reminds me of a huge ominous thunderstorm, and then the sun coming out as the drums kick in... Ahhh! Too great
