Confessional songwriting

Post by goldust » Wed May 04, 2016 2:30 pm

Hi Frank

I was watching an interview with John K Samson about songwriting and he was talking about writing from the point of view, or in the voice of someone else. He said something like "the confessional is the default setting for a songwriter". I know that other people you have said you are a fan of like Craig Finn or John Darnielle often write songs as if they are being sung by a "character" or another person as well. Is this something you have ever thought about or done?
