Tracklisting

Post by MarsLlama » Sat Apr 18, 2015 5:00 pm

Hi Frank,
As a recordings artist, one thing that kinda intrests me is writing the tracklist for an album, which sounds easy but loads of people (myself included) find very difficult. Have you ever had to make difficult desicions/regretted one afterwards in that sense? Also is it hard deciding which songs end up as bonus tracks and which make the basic album?
Thanks in advance

Hi there. Yes, very much so. I spend lifetimes agonising over this. There are a few calls now that I would make differently I think. "The Next Roung" and "Balthazar Impresario" both feel like they belong on EKMB proper. "We Shall Not Overcome" should have been on TDH as well.
Shows? All of em.

Intetesting reply on Balthazar. I see Balthazar, Eva Mae, Wanderlust and Sailor's Boots as standard EKMB tracks in my own mind. Grateful they were released as bonus tracks, but have never come across such beautiful songs that are just non-standard bonus tracks. The album is pretty close to perfection without them, mind. But those songs near enough bring a grown man (me!) to tears!

"Balthazar Impresario" is one of my favourite songs. So much depth and I love the way it builds then falls towards the end.

Out of interest (and so I can potentially make some playlists), where would you have placed these tracks on the albums?

Can't say really as it would probably have entailed moving everything else around.

Hi Frank - do you have many spare tracks from the recordings with Butch Walker for B-sides or EP fillers? Or was the actual album mainly what you worked on?

We have one song from that session. We also have a pile of other songs from demoing sessions, which I'm still trying to decide what to do with.

Completely agree. (Except that I'm not a man.)
