Secret gigs

Post by goldust » Tue Feb 03, 2015 9:52 am

Hi Frank

I just recently started following you on twitter and seeing your "nod and a wink" style promos for your unannounced gigs in LA and in London.

My question is, as an artist who has done an arena tour, massive festivals, and sells out big venues, and obviously has a manager, agent, record company and all that, how much autonomy do you have in terms of gigs? Are these secret gigs kind of spur of the moment things or have they been planned for ages and booked through your "people"? If you felt like it could you just book yourself to play at your local pub?

Cheers

I sort the secret shows myself, generally speaking, though I run it past the team first. There are times when it's not politically astute to play a show (a small London show right before a big one that hasn't sold out, for example) and I love my team, so I don't want to piss them off. But at the end of the day I'll play where and when I want to; last night everyone agreed it was a great idea to play.
Shows? All of em.

I am over from Australia until the 17th of February, SO gutted I missed this as I couldn't get tickets to the other London gig either. I know you aren't just going to reveal another show but I have to at least ask, should I be checking up on social media perhaps in the near future or have you run out of secrets to give out?

(Frank's gone on holiday so unlikely to answer this anytime soon)

I reckon your chances of another secret show before you leave are quite slim, but Twitter is the place to look.

I got the impression that this particular holiday will involve doing nothing of the sort, but you're probably right.
