Wilf Turnbull & Derek Philpott
Have you been written to by the two retired gentlemen of Bournemouth http://www.wilfturnbull.co.uk/ at all? Billy Bragg got a letter and wrote a great reply, and I'd love to see what you could come up with.
Re: Wilf Turnbull & Derek Philpott
Uh nope that's new to me..
Shows? All of em.

Re: Wilf Turnbull & Derek Philpott
Ah, if they did write would you be up for it do you think? They are currently looking for suggestions of people to try.
edit - just realised I've put you on the spot there. I realise not everyone will like the idea of having the mickey taken out of their lyrics, and apparently Sparks fans didn't take kindly to the letter that's on the website.

Re: Wilf Turnbull & Derek Philpott
That's great, thanks. I'll let Derek know.
Re: Wilf Turnbull & Derek Philpott
Interesting.
I pride myself on near-native speaker status, but I have to get the dictionary out for these guys' writings.
A Sparks fans revolt - that's a new concept.

Re: Wilf Turnbull & Derek Philpott
They can be a bit verbose, and it maybe sometimes goes a little over the heads of some of the people they write to. I love the Billy Bragg letter and reply, and the reply from Neil Hannon from The Divine Comedy was just brilliant. I do think the site is a great way to spend a few hours when you should be doing something more important though, like cutting the hedge.
Re: Wilf Turnbull & Derek Philpott
I am absolutely not trying to criticize anything here, but when I read this, I thought it was an insane hoax, or a couple of retired guys with time on their hands. I mean, who writes like this, and who reads it? Then I researched it, and, yup, it's a thing. I have heard and read many things in my life, but this, hmmm. Very unique. But I found the best conclusion to this thing ever, on Mr. Philpott's Facebook page.
"Frank Turner, thanks to my friend (name removed by me) agreed to a letter last night. We we had a lovely chat today. Basically I studied his lyrics today and thought they were wonderful and found nothing untoward at all, hence declined to enter into a correspondence...They are flawless Sir. I will not write just because I can. I hope you understand."
This is the greatest thing I've seen in a while.

Re: Wilf Turnbull & Derek Philpott
Well, after some time it appears that Mr Philpott did find something to write to Frank about.

Re: Wilf Turnbull & Derek Philpott
I love this website. My previous favourite response was Julianne Regan asserting that introducing a character called Dave into "Martha's Harbour" just might have confused the listener. But I think this one tops it.
Advantage Turner indeed. Brilliant.

I can back this up.However, I have more cunning than you give me credit for; I am, in fact, a decorated, medal-winning Hiding Enthusiast.
The potential saboteur would thus find him or herself not only failing to take my actual bag of tour clothes, but also in posession of my dirty underwear.

Re: Wilf Turnbull & Derek Philpott
That cracked me up, thanks!
Re: Wilf Turnbull & Derek Philpott
Sitting alone in my fluffy kitten laughing like a maniac. Wonderful letter from Derek, tremendous retort from ft. Bravo.
Re: Wilf Turnbull & Derek Philpott
I don't think kittens are for sitting in, no matter how fluffy they are.

Arghhh! Please don't alert the RSPCA! It's the spam thingy on this forum isn't it?Blonde wrote:I don't think kittens are for sitting in, no matter how fluffy they are.
Also, I am now haunted by the thought that the mound at the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony was littered with hidden scotch eggs.
