Hi Frank,

A lot has been made of your school days because, well, Eton, but not so much about your degree. Did you enjoy university? Were you still a self-confessed geek?

Thanks!

I did enjoy the academic side of it. I was a history nerd. Got a first and a prize for my dissertation. Some aspects of the LSE grated on me by the end tho to be honest.

British foreign economic policy and appeasement in Eastern Europe in the 1930s.

Silence follows.
Not much overlap between Frank's and fan's interests on this topic.

Hey! I like history!

Admittedly if I had to write 10,000 words under that particular title then the first two would be "Anthony Eden", and then I'd struggle. I would need some world-class waffling and padding after that, but give me access to Wikipedia and an unlimited supply of red bull, and I'd give it a shot.

I admire you. I should know more about it and feel I ought to have an interest, but I really don't. When I travel somewhere I force myself to read the 'history' chapter in the Lonely Planet, but even that is an effort….

Actually an interesting topic - I might struggle with the economic part but I could probably have a good stab at the appeasement bit. Start with Sudentenland and work from there.

I was focussed more on Poland and the Baltic states. Eden was a little later - Halifax was my guy.

Not meaning to be a kiss ass, but I think history is a vital subject, it frustrates the heck out of me when I see the same patterns again and again.
On the subject of Poland my limited knowledge of this era makes me feel obligated to be kind to all Polish folk.

Not necessarily. What did you want? Everyone to give Frank a medal? Demand that he posts his dissertation in this thread?

I can highly recommend Dan Carlin's Hardcore History podcast, if you've never heard it:

The stressful and busy commute to work is vastly improved when I'm on the tube zoning out and listening to hours and hours of fascinating tales about Genghis Khan.

Haha, I mean, if he wants to post it, I'm sure it would be an interesting artifact. And to Frank, probably a horrifying, horrifying artifact.

Egypt and Mesopotamia for me...the Egyptian History podcast with Dominic Perry is absolutely awesome. Just go to iTunes and type in "Egyptian History".
