Butch Vig

Happy to see that you are playing Flagstaff again!

I have been a huge fan ever since Brad Gurewitz posted a link to "The Road" on his personal blog in 2009, welcoming you to Epitaph. Then I saw you live with Social D in Dallas...again, headlining in Dallas...opening for Social D in Flagstaff...headlining in Phoenix then Albuqurque...

You're live shows are AMAZING! I distinctly remember Mike Ness asking the audience in Dallas (House of Blues), "how the fuck do we follow that?" when referring to the show put on by yourself and The Sleeping Souls. That being said, have you ever entertained the idea of working with Butch Vig?

The raw energy of Nirvana's Nevermind, or Smashing Pumpkin's Gish and Siamese Dream, are so similar to what you and the Sleeping Souls put forward at your shows. I just can't help but think how awesome an analogue recording session would turn out.

So love that album ... And I agree it would be great to have a FT&TSS record that is raw and as energy filled as the live shows ...

poetry was pretty much tracked live to tape (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7724)

correct me if i'm wrong, but i dont think butch vig preferentially records bands live. in fact, isn't he more famous for more over-produced type records with loads of overdubs? that was certainly the case with nirvana.

for the record (haha), I think the new FT album will sound great regardless of producer/medium it is recorded on.... so much so that I put it to Frank that he comes round my house and we record the album in my bedroom. My friend has a CD burner that we can use.

Yep. Stuff Foo Fighters Wasting Light definitely wasnt tracked live. With Nevermind I think they maybe (somebody correct me if Im wrong) tracked like the basic tracks (guitar, bass, drums), but then did a lots of overdubs at least with guitars. And as much as I love Nevermind I dont kinda see the Butch Vig&Frank collabration working that good. Especially if the next record is going to be more straight-forward/punkier as I remember Frank said in one interview. But thats just my opinion...

New album will be Mike Mogis producing and Garth Richardson engineering.

In my head, at least.
