Guitar playing question.

Post by Sami » Wed Dec 04, 2013 9:21 am

Now that you're played almost 2 tours just singing, has it at all come to your mind to hire guitar player permanently and just keep on singing, or is it more like you just cant wait to play full shows with a guitar?

I'm kind of split on it actually. i miss playing guitar a lot, and actually hiring another full time band member might well not be affordable (contrary to every smartarse on the internet, this is still a pretty hand-to-mouth operation financially). that said, it's been really fun doing shows without the guitar, more engaged with the crowd in a way. i guess we'll see going forward.
Shows? All of em.

For the record, I have seen you both ways and while at first it looked a little uncomfortable, the 2nd show I saw you sans guitar I actually quite liked. Hard to crowd surf with a guitar, I'm sure. But I really do like you just singing and dancing and I loved the harmonica.

I love that you can roam the stage freely without being tied to the mic stand. The awkward I-don't-know-what-to-do-with-my-hands dancing has diminished greatly and been replaced with some pretty cool moves. And I love what Cahir brings to the show. That moment during the "I said I loved you so many times" line in The Way I Tend to Be, when Cahir goes up to Ben and dramatically tells him that he loves him.....HaHaHa! Did you know they do that?

Does it have to be either/or?

I recently saw a band in an arena (okay, Fall Out Boy, don't judge) but I loved that in the middle of the very energetic set, band members came down to the front row and set up acoustic instruments, and played a Mini-set. It was great.

The FT and TSS shows have been totally wonderful, but I do love watching an artist play the music and notes he has penned. Either way, the dedication of the band to this tour has been amazing.
shows? 90 so far...

As opposed to smacking Ben around with it.

Crowd engagement without guitar is glorious...
ALAS, I remembered today that the reason I joined this forum was because the best live show I'd ever seen was at Lee's Palace in Toronto! With guitar.
In summary, there is no wrong decision...and everyone is going to have an opinion.
