I went to the cinema last night for an advance screening of that new Sandra Bullock movie The Heat. Anyway during the adverts before they showed a trailer for Steve Carell's new movie The Way Way Back and all of a sudden Recovery belted out as the song for the trailer. AMAZING.

Anyway I was wondering how movies go about getting songs from artists? How was Frank and his team approached about this opportunity or does the label send your stuff around for directors and sound people to choose?

Generally its publishers who shop songs around to movie studios, though on occasion a director will track down a song they like. I have no idea which is which in this instance.

Bonus upside being that film looks excellent, Sam Rockwell, Allison Janey, Steve Carrell, it's giving me that warm and fuzzy feeling I get when a film is about an awkward kid coming out of the shell :D

My favorite Sam Rockwell movie, hell my favorite movie of modern times, is called "Lawn Dogs", in which a young Sam Rockwell is befriended by an odd young girl. Great, great film. Very underrated.

Saw "The Way, Way Back" tonight. Really enjoyable. (No love found in the soundtrack though). I wish I were cool enough to take an awkward teen under my wing and make them feel good about themselves. I'm just the awkward thirty something haha.

As Frank said above ...

Musicians have publishers who represent the artists catalogue and then 'exploit' (and I don't mean that in a bad way, it's the actual term) the tracks for tv, adverts, movies etc ...
