Your Android App

Just want to clarify, I'm not asking in a way to say like, "why have we not got it yet?!"

I was just wondering if this is still in development?

As far as I know. Can't say I've heard much about it lately. I'll check it out.
Shows? All of em.

So last night during one of my many bouts of insomnia i was watching BBC News 24's technology magazine show 'Click' when they got round to talking about building Apps and give a few websites to check out which i did.

Since your Android app has yet to surface i began playing about on one of the sites i began playing around to see if i can build my own Frank Turner app. As it turns out it's relatively easy to build a basic app for free which i did within a couple of hours.

Well i thought it was free, once you have all the content in order to submit it to the Google Play App store you have to pay a developers fee in order to add it to the market. However since Android is open source software and the website i used had built the app for me and gave me a download link to download the .APK file i did just that.

Since my phone is already rooted and i have superuser access it allows you to install apps that haven't come from Google's play store. So i installed it and it works great.

As i said it's basic as until i started making it i didn't have a clue what i was doing. There's nothing on there that you can't access elsewhere it just makes it easier having all of Frank's official feeds into a little app rather than opening different ones, looking for bookmarks etc. So i included the following feeds into the app:

Frank's Twitter
Frank's Facebook
Frank's Instagram
Frank's Blog (RSS Feed from this site)
Tourdates (Bandsintown feed)
Frank's Official Youtube Channel

It looks like this...

And there you have it. Since it's a 100% unofficial app i have no plans to upload it to Google Play and i've refrained from posting a link to download the APK file unless Frank says it's okay to do so.

So there you have it fellow Android users, in the immortal words of Frank, "Try this at home".

Cheers

I also have a rooted phone, just wanted to mention that as far as I can tell on Android you don't need root access to install non-market apps, you just change your permission settings to allow unknown sources to be installed

I wasn't sure whether it needed to be rooted or not as i have a custom ROM on it but it is also set to install non market apps too.
