Wherefore art thou, Gene Simmons?

Post by capdown45 » Sun Apr 08, 2012 11:14 am

Just a thought, is the title a reference in any way to Gaslight Anthem's 'Wherefore art thou, Elvis?' and, if so, what was the thinking behind it?

Absolutely love this song by the way!

Just have to say, if the songs we've been hearing recently are anything to go by the next record could surpass EKMB for being technically and lyrically fantastic and SIFTW for being fun and dancy. I'm excited! :)

Are you planning to keep any songs away from public consumption until after the album comes out? As in, not playing live so no Youtube video's show it?

uh, probably, i mean, not as a definite plan but i'd imagine we won't be playing everything before the release date.

Excellent thanks for replying, as much as I am really loving the new songs, a couple of release day surprises would always be great :D

Good luck with the rehearsal studio :)

You could always just not watch new songs on YouTube, then you'd only hear them if they were played at a gig you're at or when you hear the new album. I've decided to do that this time and it's lovely that my first experience of new songs are seeing it right infront of me, rather than via some shitty YouTube video (not all of them are shit but you get the idea)

I really wish I could, and while physically I could do it, mentally it's not there. I'm loving the new songs way too much to not keep listening to newer ones haha. Once you hear Time Machine you'll understand! It's probably some of the strongest lyrics Frank has ever written. New songs are like crack to me...

I'm doing that, too (as I did for EKMB). I did listen to the YouTube rip of Polaroid Picture, though.

I'm going with the no Youtube idea as well.
I have to admit I did listen to quite a bit ('Cowboy chords' is my favourite) but not for the last two months. I want to keep this up so I won't know the songs through and through when the CD comes out.

I made the mistake with one band and one of their albums. I was desperate to hear new songs so hunted down Youtube videos and listened to rips of live songs religiously. By the time they were actually released nearly a year after I first heard one of the new songs, I was bored of them. I want Frank's new songs to still sound relatively fresh when they are released.

i've been doing this as well and it's much easier for me to avoid new material haha. i avoided youtubing most of EKMB except for "i am disappeared", which i totally got attached to a different version of.
