Introductory Song

Post by mankytoes » Tue Dec 20, 2011 1:00 pm

If someone hasn't heard of you and i'm going to play them one song to see if they're interested, what do you recommend (this is for other fans as well as Frank)?

I had this the other day and went for Photosynthesise. I think it is a good song for showing what you're generally about.
If you're oh so fucking different, who cares what you have to say?

I've used the Next Round to convince people to come to shows. Two Israeli girls I met on a bus from Kilkenny who have non stop been posting Frank Lyrics and such on their facebooks :)

But it really depends on the persons particular music taste, The Real Damage will work for drinkers, Prufrock is Solid overall and will work for everyones tastes, Live Fast Die Old for people who like "big" music.
I'd rather be the one who loves than to be loved and never even know.

I think Franks most radio friendly shifter unit is - The Road.

I've made a couple of mix CD's for people recently who wanted to be introduced to some new music, and I put I Still Believe on them.

I took my bro to the manchester gig, never heard of him and only ever been to two gigs in his 25 year old life. He walked out singing Photosynthesis and wanted me to make him a mix cd.

I'd say Photosynthesis, The Road and I Still Believe are all great intro songs. 28/05/07 - 04/04/08 - 31/07/09 - 16/10/09 - 17/03/10 - 26/08/10 - 18/05/11 - 26/11/11

Photosynthesis was the first song I heard by Frank. Funnily enough my general opinion at the time was that what was being played in my ears was a bit too upbeat and happy-clappy and "Not my style at all" Being into heavy rock music, like most teenagers around me, I didn't think I'd get into it, but Photosynthesis really grabbed me actually. (Don't need to be reminded of how stupid that judgement was)

For friends of mine who are into rock I ALWAYS send them 'Imperfect Tense' or 'The Road'.
Depends on what genre they like best.
Most people should like 'Poetry of The Deed' or 'Try This At Home'.

Fantastic question by Mankytoes and maybe I'm in a position to put a song forward.

I'm 43 years old and have been more interested in music than anything else (except family) throughout my entire adult life.
I've been in a million bands and not one of them has ever been approaching anywhere near average. I've written a million songs, none of them far above the poor mark. I have probably listened to a million songs - maybe less, maybe more. My own personal musical journey has led me from Stiff Little Fingers, The Clash, The Ramones and suchlike through Dylon, Bowie, Iggy & The Stooges, The Alarm, The Cult, Billy Bragg and similar (or not!) into Black Flag / Henry Rollins, Dinosaur Jr and beyond: and more latterly into a bit of John Coltrane.
Loads of stuff in between including original ska and a fair bit of classical, so pretty much eclectic I should think.
However the singer/songwriter has always appealed and I can't believe that I have stumbled upon FT so late. (I'm looking for a smiley to summarise the feeling that I have for having my head so deeply buried in the sand, but alas there isn't one. At least I found out in the end).

Back to the point. I listened to a few songs and generally liked what I heard, and then BAM! No make that a DOUBLE BAM! - "Long Live The Queen" started playing and by the end of it I had tears streaming down my face. The emotions that that small piece of poetry evoked in me that early morning, the feeling that above anything I've ever heard in my life it was the one song that I wished I had written to express what I felt at a certain point in my life, the connection to the words and the way they were sung, the raw emotion the sadness... and yet the happiness?

I obviously have a skewed perspective on the best "grabber" but I'll state here and now, I've never heard a more beautiful and poignant song in my 43 years and have "forced" a few pals to listen and they are now listening to many more FT songs.

I usually go for Prufrock or Poetry Of The Deed. I Still Believe and If Ever I Stray are good additions.
