Camping - personal tests

Post by moomin » Tue Sep 20, 2011 6:54 pm

Camping around Ireland was a bit of a personal test for me. I kept hearing about friends who were going camping and as I am not overly fond of the experience I wanted to see if it was something I could do. I Have done it at festivals and once when I was a kid but wanted to test myself a bit and try something out of my comfort zone.
This reasoning is why I have tried para-sailing and why I wanted to kiss the Blarney Stone as I am not fond of heights but am of the mind you don't know your limits until you test them or can get over your fears until you face them.
Camping holiday is now over and I have learnt a lot about myself by doing it mostly that I wont be rushing back to do it again even though the experience was actually more pleasant than I expected.

So my question is
Are there any experiences which you have in the back of your mind to try to see if you can do it or have done so already?

also curious to anyone else's moments of madness

last year in Costa Rica I went on a zip line in the Cloud Forest.
350ft above the ground and I am scared of heights ...

Way out of my comfort zone and travelling at 40mph in the middle of the sky was not good when you get Zertigo ,,,,,

WTF!!!!
I dont think I could do that I struggled enough in a cable car let alone a zip wire
did you feel better for doing it or just really sick and shaky?
would you do it again?
what is your next?

I have no words for the awe I feel for you right now

i've got a video clip of it somewhere. i'll find it.

there were 12 lines in total - i was so scared i did not do the first 2 - but then thought 'fuck it' its a once in a life time opportunity and if my wife can do it i can.

i was so scared until then end but by the time i was back on the ground i was so buzzing.

i probably would not do it again. once was enough. when i was on the zip line that took 1 min to cross at 40mph - i looked down - could not even see the ground and just thought FUCK!

Also, I too kissed the Blarney Stone. Didn't really want to at first due to the "touristy" nature of the whole thing, but I am not fond of heights either so I made myself do it.

I came so close to doing a bungee jump with a colleague near Battersea Power Station, we were going to book after pay day however someone died in the interim which put us off, we then talked ourselves back into it only for someone else to die, never been able to talk myself back into it and that looks far too like a bungee jump so hats off to your cousin.

I kissed the Blarney stone for the first time ever last week too! :D I'm from Cork but was showing some American friends around.

My outside comfort zone things include when I dressed as a woman for a charity night out and an Alternative Miss Contest on a dare from a friend.

Doing an abseiling thing down 200 ft (ish) while being insanely afraid of heights.
I'd rather be the one who loves than to be loved and never even know.

Hang gliding about 4 years ago. Some of the most fun I've had. Galloping my horse never hurts for thrills either!
