Jenny Lewis, yes. The pierces, no. They're really dull.

i'd love to hear a fthc cover version ;)
I saw a guy cover this at Acoustic Rooms one night. It was really good.

I second this. Their album is fantastic.

Also check out Sleigh Bells, they have a kind of rock/hip hop vibe.

I like Giant Drag. A lot.
The guitarist in our band wanted to do Wicked Game, I said 'only if we do it like this' and played him Giant Drag's version. He wasn't too keen to do the song after that. Did they ever release a 2nd album?

i am also frank. i thought tiffiny would be a clever pseudonym, sort of the polar opposite of a masculine, traditional name like frank.

one of my favorite albums this year is kelli schaefer's "ghost of the beast" which i cannot recommend enough. same with laura stevenson & the cans- brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. other females/female fronted bands that are super awesome that come to mind:

basia bulat
jenny owen youngs
dawn landes
andrea ball
lisa hannigan
sarah jaffe
tristen

and that's already tl;dr so i'll stop.

Nope. Not yet. Allegedly it's already done, but no news on a release

edit - forgot to say, i'm obviously not frank either!
Band of Skulls aren't really female fronted though, I see it as mainly the guy. They are still good and worth checking out.

Be Your Own Pet are an excellent girl fronted band, so are the Breeders :)

Kylessa are pretty cool and have a woman on shared vocal duties...although to be fair, she sounds much like a gravelly throated man

Just wondering.. What handful of albums have changed your life/made you see music in a different way etc?

Also do you have any guilty pleasures?
Maybe a sneaky bit of Matt Cardle or Example in those lonely evenings ?

and a little bit more..
Do you know any decent rock bands with female lead singers?
Your taste is usually pretty sweet. I need my mind blowing.

Thanks a lot
x

hm. life changers, well, in roughly chronological order:
Iron Maiden - Killers
Counting Crows - August & Everything After
Nirvana - In Utero
NOFX - Punk In Drublic
Black Flag - First Four Years
Boy Sets Fire - The Day The Sun Went Out
Refused - Shape Of Punk To Come
Converge - When Forever Comes Crashing
Weakerthans - Left & Leaving
Godspeed You Black Emperor - Slow Riot For New Zero Kanada
Johnny Cash - American Recordings
Josh Rouse - Dressed Up Like Nebraska
Ryan Adams - Heartbreaker

something like that. I don't believe in guilty pleasures - i like what i like (which includes a little bit of Example, for the record).

female-fronted bands, uh, well, Anomie were amazing, Melt Banana, maybe Walls Of Jericho (hahahaha). to be honest most of my favourite women are solo singers - Tori Amos, Linda Thompson, Loretta Lynn, Lucinda Williams, etc.

Wow,amazing. Thanks for the response.
I love a couple of songs by Tori Amos. I should really listen to her more often.

How come no-ones mentioned Regina Spektor? Or did Frank's kidnapping plan go ahead and now there's a moratorium on her name round here as part of a restraining order?

Anyways, and since I have every faith that you are taking every suggested act (and not just the ones Frank has raised) on board, the singer of my band has just set up a facebook page and uploaded her new EP.

Am I the only one who was disappointed upon reading this that it wasn't started by a 18-21 year old blonde, who, in her love for Frank had uploded a picture of her boobage....?

No?

Just me then.
