Hello Frank.
Just wondering.. What handful of albums have changed your life/made you see music in a different way etc?

Also do you have any guilty pleasures?
Maybe a sneaky bit of Matt Cardle or Example in those lonely evenings ?

and a little bit more..
Do you know any decent rock bands with female lead singers?
Your taste is usually pretty sweet. I need my mind blowing.

Thanks a lot

I'm not Frank, obviously, but I recently got into The Joy Formidable, they have a female singer/guitarist. I like them.

Alas, I am clearly not Frank, either, but check out Girl in a Coma (from San Antonio, TX) if you haven't. I dig 'em.
Brevity is not my forte.

I am Frank. I post under this ridiculous pseudonym so people don't realise I post so much on my own forum.

hm. life changers, well, in roughly chronological order:
Iron Maiden - Killers
Counting Crows - August & Everything After
Nirvana - In Utero
NOFX - Punk In Drublic
Black Flag - First Four Years
Boy Sets Fire - The Day The Sun Went Out
Refused - Shape Of Punk To Come
Converge - When Forever Comes Crashing
Weakerthans - Left & Leaving
Godspeed You Black Emperor - Slow Riot For New Zero Kanada
Johnny Cash - American Recordings
Josh Rouse - Dressed Up Like Nebraska
Ryan Adams - Heartbreaker

something like that. I don't believe in guilty pleasures - i like what i like (which includes a little bit of Example, for the record).

female-fronted bands, uh, well, Anomie were amazing, Melt Banana, maybe Walls Of Jericho (hahahaha). to be honest most of my favourite women are solo singers - Tori Amos, Linda Thompson, Loretta Lynn, Lucinda Williams, etc.
Shows? All of em.

in addition to the female-fronted bands above, i'd say try band of skulls, the duke spirit, esben and the witch, little fish and (the all-girl band) warpaint

edit - forgot to say, i'm obviously not frank either!

Get out. Absolute horse shit. I saw her a bunch of times supporting A Perfect Circle and she sucked.

We will have to agree to disagree here. I thought that album was atrocious. The single didn't suck as much as the rest of it, but definitely not to my taste.

All that said, i find her to be rather attractive.

I fucking love Auf Der Maur's first album. And she is indeed rather attractive. PJ Harvey needs a mention in this female-orientated discussion. I also liked Giant Drag's album, and Free Kitten, which was a side project of Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon
