I don't have the specific interview on hand, but Frank said something about Ben Morse wanting to throw him into the ocean for the next video they shoot and well... that narrows down the choices.

I feel like this record could almost be classed as a concept album. There are various themes and motifs throughout the album and nearly every song uses at least one of them: Death/mortality/religion, personal connections to home/country, dreams, rivers/water...

I would be interested to hear a Frank concept album. I wonder what his views on that would be?

Who is the Davy Jones mentioned in One Foot Before the Other?

'Davy Jones' is sailor-speak for the demonic force that presides over ocean depths, which is why you get a baddie called that in the Pirates: Dead Man's Chest movie.

Also, I second the concept album view - when I was reviewing EKMB it came out more like a literary analysis than a musical one, precisely because its so conceptually coherent.

Could it not be the guy from The Monkees, given that the others mentioned aren't fictional? Though, saying that, he doesn't seem to quite fit the category of the others. Hmmm...

Hmmm. Indeed. It is of course possible that there's a reference been made to both, given that EKMB elsewhere pays homage to musical heroes, as well as being a rather watery / maritime album.

I thought it could be Davy Jones of the Monkees, but he hasn't "dissolved into the ether" quite yet! (According to Wiki he shares my birthday, cool.)
