Broken Piano

Hey Frank, how long did it take you to write "Broken Piano"?

Because I'm looking at things like the repeated s-s-b assonance pattern in the chorus (sat down, sadness, beneath; sad songs, broken; sinner, saved, banks) and the internal rhyming structure of the verses, and thinking "that can't be a coincidence, there's some serious crafting that went into this!"

Cheers,
Urs.

I'm notgoing to answer the question.

But i suspect there's some serious crafting that goes into most of franks songs

Look at Four Simple words, so very clever and well constructed.
Polaroid Picture, again, such a clever well written track

I could go on but I'll let others join in

I think the same about Plain Sailing Weather with all the sailing terms and how it's used to describe a failing relationship. It wows me every time.

All of this is true. But I'm not just looking at the content of the song, I'm looking at how it's structured. There are so many things going on, simply from a poetry-writing perspective.

Hi there. Uh, hard to say exactly, but a few months of toying with it. Nice to see the little cogs being noticed, it's all very much intentional. There's a chapter about this song in the new book.
Shows? All of em.
