Shaky Knees Festival this past weekend May 2015

Post by JerseyGirl » Mon May 04, 2015 12:48 pm

The Shaky Knees Festival is this weekend in Atlanta, Georgia. Weather should be perfect but hot at over 80 degrees. Frank and the SS are scheduled to play on the Sunday.

Frank and the Sleeping Souls are also scheduled for a show at an Atlanta bar called Masquarade on Saturday night- doors 10:30. Should be steamy and fun and intimate!

We're bringing 3 new fans along, maybe more as my best bud owns a bar called There in Atlanta and may bring his gf so if you're going- lets say hi and I'll post a report on the new material that he plays!

LOL. Thanks.

I'm sure I spelled masquarade wrong, too. The late show sold out! Lol again, I think it holds about 300.

Well, the late night show on Saturday night was a blast!

Lots of people had gone to the festival by the number of wristbands I saw so they had been out in the Atlanta sun all day. It was upper 80s on Saturday and it was hot!

Masquarade is a small venue with that holds about 300. The stage was small and the pit was jammed packed. We had our 22 & 24 year old kids with us. My son has been seeing Bruce Springsteen shows since he was 11- all of them in the pit in 20,000 seat venues so being 7 feet from the stage and the band was very cool for him! Loved watching his reactions during the show!

So, the set list was perfect for first timers- Eulogy, Peggy, Glory Hullaluia(sp), Four Simple Words, Lexi's Song, I Still Believe. A couple of new ones including Not Dead Yet, which most of the crowd seemed to know. Frank pointed to a few people up front and noted that they had heard the songs and were ok with them, ahem darlenet.;) He did say that the setlist would be pretty much the same at the festival but who wouldn't be ok with that??

Mid set was an acoustic, sorry I forget the name of the new song- I'll go look and edit this but it was beautiful. Loved Disappeared- Frank starts solo and towards the end the band joins in, starting with the mighty, mighty Nigel on drums- just great.

Frank did some crazy crowd surfing, at one point he climbed on to the balcony and sang from there. That's when Nate from Flogging Molly got up on the stage and sang a bit but he also seemed to kiss or hug Tarrent and Ben and Cahir got him down before he fell into the Nigel. Apparently they were all watching the show from the back bar. Looked crazy from where I was! Of course, so did the pit mashers so I guess all in all it was one hell of a crazy late night of punk rock show!

I posted another review on Backstreets.com, the site where I first discovered Frank Turner and his unnamed band at the time. So, thank you again watergirl for posting that I Still Believe video on BTX back in August 2011- this band just keeps getting better and better. So glad to be able to share this music with people I like! Two new fans for life after last Saturday night in Atlanta!!!
