Australia Tour - Melbourne

Hey all. It's been a while.

I'll be going to the Corner Hotel gig on 15 April in Melbourne. Anyone from here heading there? I'm a long way from home and looking for some gig buddies.

Equally any word on whether Frank is planning / playing any other 'secret' gigs around that time? Don't have a full time internet connection as I'm living out the way so hard to keep track of the twitter feed and such.

Looking forward to the gig! Been too long since my last FT show. Also there any new material I may've missed? Got The Third Three Years and it's been fun reliving those memories.

And FT has a tradition of playing covers of famous local bands... any thoughts on an Australian artists song that'd make a good cover? My knowledge of their scene doesn't really go past Savage Garden.

Those generally depend on his contractual obligations to the promoters. It is normal practice to say "You cannot play a show within x amount of distance of this venue within x amount of time" which can make further shows impossible.

Throw Your Arms Around Me by Hunters & Collectors would make a good FT cover, IMO....

Sunsets by Powderfinger, or maybe Rita or Stand Yourself by the same band

Hit Song by Custard

Any Kylie Minogue song.

Surely it's INXS and AC/DC all the way?

I could get behind a Kylie cover.

Understood on the obligations for gigs front. There's just a bit of a gap around that time (and also things like radio performances come - remember catching him in Philly at the World Cafe on a similar sorta thing).

No Melbourne folks want to be my friend? :( will bump around the time of the gig.

Do I win a prize for inadvertently seeing Frank play in two different continents over two consecutive months this April / May? *smug*

'Wide open road' by the Triffids is a great song.

Bump if there's any newbies heading to Melbourne now that we're closer to the time.

What about a cover of And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda. A powerful song - I like The Pogues version.

It's 100 years since Gallipoli and ANZAC day / the start of the campaign is not long after the gig. Bit too heavy for a FT concert? I think he could do a good slowed down version, bit like his rendition of Barbara Allen. It's a song with a powerful message, though I'm not sure on Frank's politics I'd guess we can all get behind war being bad?

I'd love to see Frank tackle A Tale They Won't Believe by Weddings Parties Anything.

I will be making my way up from Tassie for the 15th gig, couldn't find anyone else to go so I will be hanging around and chilling. If you see a loner Tasmanian looking guy feel free to say hello!

I'll be at both Melbourne gigs, and looks like I'll be flying solo (not that you're ever really alone at a Frank Turner gig...)

If you spot a tall English guy drinking beer on his own, say hello!

(Also -- I've got a spare ticket for the Sunday gig if anyone wants it)
