Recap of the Toronto double header
Sadly back at work after a wonderful double header of Frank & the Sleeping Souls this weekend in Toronto.
Saturday he played a set at the historic Fort York as part of the inaugural TURF (Toronto Urban Roots Festival), a hot but beautiful music filled day. A relatively safe setlist for the festival crowd and he included some Canadian content by covering the Weakerthans. The end of the set included a cover of Thunder Road which was a bit spontaneous but very welcomed as I hadn't seen him perform that one in the shows that I'd been to. (Thanks JC!)
Last night though was otherworldly.... he played Lee's Palace (capacity is about 600 people) and it looked to be a near sell out - but the venue's air conditioning wasn't working. HOTTEST SHOW EVER - both literally and figuratively. Even in the heat, unbelievable energy from both the band and the crowd. A more fan devoted setlist of which highlights included a cover of Neil Young's Only Love Can Break Your Heart, an acoustic duet featuring Billy the Kid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Pettinger) on harmonica and back up vocals and a surprise in the encore of the first live performance of Broken Piano.
First time I've seen Frank surf into the crowd as well. Fantastic energy!
I'm now counting down until November when I can catch them again.

I'm not holding out much hope with it being a festival crowd.marowak wrote:wow - i was expecting the first play of that at 2000 trees .. hopefully this means it will def get playedBeechied wrote: a surprise in the encore of the first live performance of Broken Piano..

I can't believe this was last summer....sometimes it feels like a lifetime ago, sometimes it feels like last month. So confusing.
