Finland in winter

Post by Watergirl » Wed Dec 05, 2012 12:58 pm

What an intriguing prospect. Too bad this is rather short notice.
Finland is on my list of places I want to visit (have only been to Helsinki) and this would have been the perfect excuse.
Great news for the Finnish fans anyway...

Just went to the gigs in Newcastle & Edinburgh so a month isnt too bad right now! And considering in January it'll be 2½ years since the last gig in Finland a month is nothing

The only time Frank's been here with the Sleeping Souls was on a Sunday night and it was still a great gig, so a Friday night should be something else. I'm still hoping I can avoid working on Thursday and Friday so I can see the Turku and Tampere gigs as well.

Coolest thing in a long time! I'll be going at least Tampere and Helsinki. Never would have guess that someday all I have to do is to walk couple hundred meters to see Frank-fucking-Turner :)!

Winters of southern Finland (when mean daily temperature remains below 0 °C/32 °F) are usually about 100 days long, and the snow typically covers the land from about late November to mid-April. Even in the most temperate regions of the south the harshest winter nights can see the temperatures fall to −30 °C (−22 °F). Climatic summers (when mean daily temperature remains above 10 °C/50 °F) in southern Finland last from about late May to mid-September, and in the inland the warmest days of July can reach 35 °C (95 °F). Although most of Finland lies on the taiga belt, the southernmost coastal regions are sometimes classified as hemiboreal. In northern Finland, particularly in Lapland, the winters are long and cold, while the summers are relatively warm but short. The most severe winter days in Lapland can see the temperature fall down to −45 °C (−49 °F). The winter of the north lasts for about 200 days with permanent snow cover from about mid-October to early May. Summers in the north are quite short, only two to three months, but can still see maximum daily temperatures above 25 °C (77 °F) during heat waves. No part of Finland has Arctic tundra, but Alpine tundra can be found at the fells Lapland.

I usually delete spam posts after I ban the spammer, but this one is so educational I'm tempted to leave it.

Hey guys! We´re coming to Finland for the first time to see Frank in Åbo and Helsinki, do you have any "tourist" tips for us in between the gigs, where should we go and what should we see? And where should we go to have a beer before the gig? :)

Im not from Helsinki, but Suomenlinna (Sveaborg) is at least in the summer great place to visit. No idea how it is in the wintertime, but nothing else comes to my mind :D. No any special bars comes to my mind, because as I said I dont live there. Bar Loose or On The Rocks are pretty close, but dont know they are the even open before the gig. I guess somebody from Helsinki would be much better guide :). But välkommen!
