Gigs in the USA

Post by ~Katt » Wed Mar 09, 2011 1:51 pm

Since there are only a handful of Americans on here, and I'm lazy, I'm splitting off from the "New Tour Dates" thread.

I saw two others, 16togrove & Michael - who will be at the DC show. Hi guys!

I haven't been to the Red Palace yet. I know it was two clubs, The Red and the Black/The Palace of Wonders, that joined together. I've been to the Rock and Roll Hotel a number of times; most recently to see Biffy Clyro, which was inexplicably not sold out. The RnR Hotel web site claims capacity of 400, but that's sort of hard to believe. The place is tiny.

I dunno what the capacity of the Red Palace is, but I'm looking forward to seeing Frank there. I have tickets for Foster the People earlier in the month (which is sold out!) Doing my best to help bolster FT ticket sales.

Nearby dining options include Granville Moore's for mussels, frites and Belgian beer; The Argonaut has an enviable tap selection and decent food; The Biergarten Haus (obviously) features German fare. The beer is great; the food, not so great. We'll probably end up at Granville Moore's since it's nearest the Red Palace.

Cheers,

Katt

It is very small, at least compared to the 9:30 club. If you've been to the 9:30 club the upstairs has a 836 total person limit <edit>(I went to The Pogues show last night and saw the sign on the wall :p)</edit> so you can estimate from there. My estimate would be...150-200 people at capacity? I went to a show at <edit>Red Palace</edit> last week and it was a nice venue. But don't forget your earplugs if you wear them, they were sold out so they aren't too attentive to keeping enough in stock.

The show appears to be sold out now; I'm having my birthday party before/during/after the show and bought a block for my friends.

I started a new thread for that specific show before noticing this one. Since I'm new to the board I'm not sure how strict they are about duplicate topics, should I delete that thread?

How convenient it is that us few Americans on the boards are nicely pocketed on the east coast, haha. :)

Sadly Michael's right, in my wait between pay checks the show got sold out. And I doubt there'll be anybody selling tickets to such an intimate space... :( Looks like I'll be missing this one, so you two better have two (or more) for me and sing extra loud!

I'm conveniently in San Francsico at the time of the "bottom of the hill" gig, so will be at that one.

I have an extra ticket if you want it. I bought 4 and only 3 are spoken for.

I was at the Pogues last night and am paying for it this morning. Ouch. The 9:30 Club is my least favorite small-ish venue. I love the Black Cat and the Rock and Roll Hotel, except I can never get a taxi after the R&R shows, which pisses me off. Shane was on much better form this year compared to last year! Still no teeth, but not as tippy-over-y ;-)

Oh man. Did you fall from the sky? Because you might be an angel. If it remains unspoken for I would LOVE to take it off your hands! :)

I'm just paying back a favor in kind :) A Frank-follower on Twitter, Iain, gave me his wife's ticket to a sold-out Winchester show a couple of years ago, and another really nice guy got me a ticket to a sold-out Reading Festival last summer, so I'm happy to be able to make someone else's day for a change.

The ticket's yours. I can mail it to you or give it to you there. I have it in my possession. You can email me at kattdc at gmail or FB friend me, whatever.

Cheers,

Katt

And this, right here, is what convinces me we could find world peace if everyone was just a Frank Turner fan. I cannot thank you enough, this has seriously made my whole month. I'll send you an email straightaway. :)

I saw them the night before you, it was a great show! I'm glad they were just as good the next night. He was wasted and smoking by the end of the show and left the stage several times, I suspect for an oxygen mask. I enjoyed the tin-foil cooking pan percussion ha! It was my first time seeing them in concert. I've also seen Social Distortion there twice and Josh Ritter there twice, all four shows sold out. I find it an amazing venue when it sells out. I've been to one non-sold out show there and it was good but not great.
