I played there once when I was about 15. The band on before us has a fight onstage after the singer downed (in one) a quart of whiskey in the opening bars of the first song. He then proceeded to thrash the stage until the bass player slapped him. It all descended into utter chaos within minutes. I reckon they made it about 8 minutes into their set before the singer leaped over the drums to attack the drummer and the gig was over. Amazing.
Remember the name of the band?
Nope.

This year's Southside line-up so far:

Arcade Fire · Beastie Boys · Bloc Party · Die Fantastischen Vier · Fotos · Incubus · Kings Of Leon · Marilyn Manson · Me First and the Gimme Gimmes · Pearl Jam · Sonic Youth · Virginia Jetzt! ·

And I'm still thinking about Give It A Name in Cologne..Mewithoutyou, Jimmy Eat Wurrld, Sparta...hmm

Anyway, got my ticket for the Southside clubtour next week including Aereogramme and Get Cape. Seems like they start to recognize him and others like Jamie T, "Chronicles.." just came out last Friday.

I think this is the "learning" year for GIAN. The year they learn that it's a really bad idea to move the northern UK gig to a city where nobody can get home on the train after it finishes late on Sunday Night. The year they learn that starting midday on a Friday (and not even on a bank holiday weekend!!) isn't helpful for schoolkids, university goers, or people with jobs. And the year they learn that trying to promote further gigs in Europe on the tour while you still haven't got the UK side of things down is going to end in tears.

I await next year when they get it all together again.

martin and i are going to that. props.

apparently they've been AMAZING on this tour so far, playing mostly madonna/source tags & codes stuff, and only one off the new album. this is good.

I don't really care what they play. I liek the new album now (after forcing myself to listen to it a bunch). The last album is my personal favourite.

They are always good. Apart from in broad daylight. Just as long as they still have two drummers, I'll be happy. For years it was all about the swapping instruments that they'd invariably smash at the end of the set (a cymbal literally whizzed past my head when I saw them at the Barfly), and then all of a sudden..TWO DRUMMERS! Fuck yeah! That's the way forward.
