DieselBenz that sounds like an awesome evening! Go ahead and ramble more!
Re: Non-Frank Gigs
I seen James Bay last night and while I feared it may morph into a Michael Bolton show it actually turned out to be quite entertaining.

Re: Non-Frank Gigs
Spent the weekend at Womad. Great to go to a festival where you only know 25% of the line up and discover lots of new stuff.
Loved Tulegur (from China), Kapela Maliszow (Polish), Ezza (Niger/France), 47 Soul (Palestine/U.K.) and Jambinai (South Korea).
Also saw a great singer/songwriter from Sunderland whom I hadn't heard of before. He calls himself The Lake Poets.
And some fantastic gigs from old reliables Tinariwen, Spiro, the Cat Empire and Bellowhead.

Daughter has tickets to warped tour tomorrow. Parents can get in free. Koo Koo Kangaroo is performing. So I think I'm going to go too.
Re: Non-Frank Gigs
Booked the Waterboys for November in Dublin, need to get my finger out and sort out a ticket or two on Frank's tour as well.....
Re: Non-Frank Gigs
My 10th Cambridge Folk Festival. Best of all was the acoustic show by FT himself, but for the purpose of this thread my highlights were the Unthanks, the Stray Birds, Lynched, Martin Simpson, Ben Miller Band, Chris Smither, John Butler Trio, the Proclaimers, Danú, Show Of Hands, Rhiannon Giddens. I could go on.

Started off this week with the magnificent Augustines at the Scala - a fantastic, powerful singalong throughout, absolutely loved it. One of my favourite shows of all time.
Ended this week with the magnificent Highbury Garage show..... and ditto. Excellent week

I thought I might have overdosed on shows with all the festivals, but I stumbled upon a perfect gig yesterday. Saw Luka Bloom in the Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray. Luka is 60 now, but what a stage presence.

Last night was Chicago with Earth Wind and Fire. Philip Bailey can still hit those high notes and the Chicago horn section has more energy than most guys a third of their age.
Next Saturday I get to see Beans on Toast, Truckstop Honeymoon, and Sky Smeed in a 80 person venue in Kansas CIty.

Went to Lollapalooza Berlin last weekend. Sunday was heavenly... Wolf Alice, Brand New, Beatsteaks, Muse ... tomorrow it's Brand New in Hamburg.
Re: Non-Frank Gigs
Saw lots of Irish stuff over the last few days: Méabh Ní Bheaglaioch and Matt Griffin, Séamus Begley & Tim Edey plus friends (including Damien Dempsey!), Lynched (best band in Ireland right now), This Is How We Fly, i am niamh and Liam Ó Maonlaí.

Re: Non-Frank Gigs
Just did Twenty One Pilots and Echosmilth last night. Boy did I feel old.
Re: Non-Frank Gigs
Tom Russell at Whelans: great singer/songwriter and storyteller; the chat is as good as the music.
Alabama 3 Unplugged, Whelans again: Very nice but almost identical set to last time I saw them - four years ago or so.
Lynched at the Mermaid Arts Centre, Bray: Second Lynched show in three weeks; they are *that* good.

Re: Non-Frank Gigs
I just saw them a few days ago. I have followed them since the beginning, and the audience is definitely younger these days. Their show was amazing! Their newest album Blurry Face isn't my favorite, but it was awesome live. Every word shouted back at them.bridgemo wrote:Just did Twenty One Pilots and Echosmilth last night. Boy did I feel old.
I was going to recommend UK folks see them, but I see their shows are sold out. They will be back in February, though.
shows? 90 so far...
Re: Non-Frank Gigs
Saw "Weird Al" Yankovic last Tuesday and thoroughly enjoyed it. One of the best entrances to a gig I've ever seen. Ticket got for Nathaniel Rateliff And The Night Sweats in a small club next Wednesday, should be a hell of a party!!
