I am at FEST right now and just experienced Larry and His Flask. Have heard many good things, but OH MY GOSH! They blew me away. Just killed it. Crowd surfing while playing an upright bass? Really? Yep. Also, Tim Barry was great. And such a nice fellow.

Going to see Joel Plaskett play a solo show tonight, which makes my ears happy! Can't hear "You're Mine" without thinking of the FT&SS setup soundtrack, though. And then Jenny Owen Youngs comes on right after, I think (if you don't know what I'm talking about, don't even worry haha).

Hooray for the gloriousness! Glad you loved both :)

I don't think it's a date I could make, but I never really looked properly.

Might be a long shot, but do any of you guys want a ticket to Ben Marwood's show in York on the 14th December? I'm looking to sell mine, so I can go to the other show the day before.
I'm no good at thinking of something funny enough for these things.

I saw the Barr Brothers last night in Riviere Du Loup. I had listened to their CD and liked it, but I was disappointed with the gig. I found them overly earnest. I remember thinking the same when I saw the Low Anthem (whom they reminded me of) for the first time and I really like them now, so perhaps just an odd first-time-reaction.

I just saw OWTH at FEST for the first time. They were amazing. Great live band. Rough pit, though. Enjoy!

Great timing! I'm planning my FEST schedule, and I had a gap available, so I will definitely go see PJ Bond (with full band) there and Mark McCabe the day before. Thanks for the advice.

hurrah! You'll love them, PJ has some free songs here if you want to get a little taster - http://pjbondmusic.bandcamp.com/
Your recommendations were spot on. Have now downloaded PJ Bond's music. He actually had Arliss Nancy playing with him as a backup band. Then they followed. Loved them, too. One of my favorite sets. Also, Mark McCabe sang songs from his upcoming record that were great. Thanks, great advice.

They are mid-bill with Snuff as a headliner, but I'm still looking forward to it AND the promoter sent me an extra ticket with a nice note to enjoy it. Which I completely intend to do, since the venue is in a bar that is walking distance. Schweet!

So I'm taking my 18 year old. This'll be a fucking education for my Michael Buble' loving kid. ;)
