R.I.P Nick Mann

Post by newmy » Mon Mar 30, 2015 7:24 pm

Whilst I don't expect many people know who he was, today saw the news break of the tragic death of a hero of the underground UK music scene, Nick Mann, who died trying to rescue his brother from the path of a train on the London Underground. His brother remains in hospital in a critical condition.

Nick was a champion of and gave his support to bands too numerous to mention, chiefly through his editorship of A Short Fanzine About Rocking which he ran for 13 years from 2001-2014. He was also a writer for Big Cheese magazine. You could also pretty much guarantee that if there was a gig on, he'd be there.

He was one of the most genuine, unpretentious and friendly people I've ever had the pleasure to call a friend, and he will be sorely missed by the UK hardcore, punk and metal scene. Please spare a thought for him, his friends and his family, and always remember to tell those you love that you love them.

RIP Nick Mann

I never met Nick but I knew of him through Punktastic and a mutual love of lower-league football. I'd heard about the incident but only found it was him this morning. As Frank says, really sad stuff.
