Need insight here.....

Post by darlenet. » Sat Sep 27, 2014 11:13 pm

Hey UK folks,

I'm not trying to stir up controversy here, but I am a studier of people and wonder if anyone can offer insight on an observation I've made.

Ok, regarding people's reaction to Koo Koo Kangaroo as a supporting act. In the US, there were skeptics; some were won over, and some not. But for the most part, people participated or just ignored them.

However, I am seeing such visceral responses to them in the UK. Obviously not everyone, just some. But my point is the reaction is often so angry and resentful. I am curious as to why. I am not trying to have a discussion as to whether they are crap or not, because that is everyone's opinion to have. But certainly we all suffer through sub-par support acts all the time, so who cares? I am curious as to what brings about this generally being pissed off (really resentful) reaction toward them.

Is there a cultural explanation? Any enlightenment?

I think it's just because it's so different. Not the usual support act fare. I for one love them.

Thanks, Danlechief . So, then support acts must mean a lot more over there, with higher expectations. Maybe that's part of it.

Glad you like them, they are fun. And happy so many people are enjoying them.

Not necessarily higher expectations. Just something more in line with the main act I think.

KKKR are just their own thing. They wouldn't "fit in" as a support act for anyone. Except maybe the muppets!!

Actually, Darlene, I don't think the reaction is that different. There were plenty of haters in the States too. Lots of negative comments on twitter. A guy at one of the shows followed Neil all the way back to the stage at the end of the show telling him over and over "you suck!"

Huh! Wow, I didn't see that in the shows I went to at all. Maybe us southerners are goofy ourselves! And I recall the tweets being more incredulous than angry. "Has he lost his mind?" kind of thing.

So if that's the case, I guess my answer is just that the unfamiliarity and uniqueness of the act just brings out the opinions of people. One thing is apparent. This has been an amazing tour all the way around. Great way to end their touring year!

The ones responding viscerally are the six or seven each night who don't like it, so are on twitter because they're bored. Everyone else is too busy having their faces melted. We're doing 800-1200 a night, so I'd take 8 poor reactions in amongst that.

I loved them both times. They are a perfect warm up imo. Sad there was no unicorn song last night.

Ha! Had fun googling these. Never knew "comedic rap" was a music genre. And I like that GLC has a member named "Maggot."

They sing about unicorns and rainbows, some people just can't get there head around that.

I found the end of a rainbow once, it ended at a prison. Not sure what that meant.

We've had songs about Teletubbies, fastfood, macarena's. We've had stoners singing about getting high, hippies wanting to get high on marajuana....

UNICORNS FOR NUMBER 1, that's what I say.

That reminds me. On the subject of bizarre support I saw GLC support feeder. It didn't go down well.
