Software Help

Post by SB » Thu Sep 12, 2013 6:15 pm

Hi, this is a completely random request for help, but as a lot of you a brilliant at a lot of different things I thought it worth an ask for forum help with this!

I've been helping a fellow forum member out with their CV. As well as rewriting the copy I've reformatted to make it look smart/professional.

I've done all of this using Pages on my Mac. (I know, I know, like a sodding idiot extraordinaire.)

The girl it's for can't now open it on her PC, though, and it obviously needs to be in a different format for employers to open. I've tried merely just saving it as a .doc / .docx file but it messes up the formatting rather tremendously.

Does anyone have either any ideas or software that might help?! I'm all out of ideas (not least because I'm feeling pretty ropey health wise today, too).

Thanks for reading & we'd obviously both appreciate any ideas any of you may have :-/

Unless she needs to alter I'd suggest saving it as a PDF. All businesses use pdf's, and she can print it off if she needs to hand in a paper copy.
So if ever a man should ask you for your business or your name, tell him to go and fuck himself and tell his friends to do the same.

I watched that conversation happen. You're really awesome, Suze.

I've never made pages play nice with Word. So a PDF in the short term.

In the longer term, she can take the .doc(x) file with the formatting all bad, copy it all, and paste it into Notebook. This will strip ALL formatting. Then copy it into a fresh word doc and reformat it herself.

The words are all still there, and the formatting can be redone pretty easily if you start from scratch with an unformatted doc. Otherwise it will be too painful to try to fix.

Yup, another for PDFs. I receive hundreds of CVs and only consultants now send as word and that's purely cos they edit the fuck out of the candidates CV, which is really, REALLY annoying. (If any consultants are reading - stop fucking doing that)
