Because I'm sure I've been to plenty of shows and looked bored/gone out for a fag/talked during a "fan favourite" song...it's different talking as a die hard fan of a band, as opposed to 90% of the audience who haven't heard Nashville Tennessee. It's a real hard balance to strike but I think Frank does it better than most...for example AC/DC (I know not a band many on here would be in to) played the same setlist for two years on the most recent tour...and I mean exactly the same, down to the interaction between songs (think they added two songs for the european leg, and swapped one song for another for the last leg) and that certainly isn't hugely unusual amongst large legacy acts. In two years of going to Frank Turner shows (10 now in total I think) I've heard *something* unexpected at almost every show...and to be honest a show made up entirely of B sides and album tracks would be shit, because the atmosphere just wouldn't be the same...the best Frank show I've seen was Birmingham on the April 2013 UK dates, and it was also probably the most conservative setlist of any of them (Nashville Tennessee and Anymore were the only rarities) I would defy anyone on here who thinks they could do better to write a setlist that leaves such a high percentage of the crowd leaving happy. It's not as easy as saying all the fans on my forum want to hear a decent cup of tea and rock and roll romance and fastest way back home, so that's what I'll play.

Faith No More were very, very good at mixing things up on their recent reunion tours.

I also would love to hear this one, not convinced how well it would do live though as its a bit slow to get started.

I was thinking about where it would possibly fit in a setlist and my best guess you be to fit it in after frank's little solo bit. It'd reintroduce the Souls and start to bring the energy back up. But what do I know? Lol
I'm no good at thinking of something funny enough for these things.

I go through phases of listening to different albums. Last couple of months have been very Love Ire & Song focused, and it made me desperately want to hear the title track played live. Was comparing setlists from various gig's I've been to the other day and realised he'd played it when I saw him at the Bristol gig in April.

I think he mixes it up well, but would also love to hear Fisher King Blues and We Shall Not Overcome :)

We Shall Not Overcome is awesome live. Frank played it in Brooklyn in July and, especially given that it's a song only on the deluxe album, it had an amazing crowd response. It also sounded fab!

There is a new aspect to this argument now, as in what is actually possible at this moment in time. I went to Nijmegen and Groningen and am going to Dortmund tonight. Two great shows already and a killer setlist, albeit the exact same one twice.
Frank explained that for now Dan knows 20 songs, so that's what's played. Highlights for me were 'Broken piano' and the new piano version of 'Ballad'. Also 'Recovery' which is such fun live, and 'The way I tend to be' (great singalong). And then there is always songs that you somehow suddenly hear with new ears. For me right now that's 'One foot before the other' and 'The road'.
I would love to hear more songs from 'Tape deck heart', but I realize that for now it's just fantastic that the shows are happening at all. For a moment I was worried that Europe was going get cancelled, and less dedicated artists would have done that.
So, it's all good, but Frank, if you read this - could you ask Dan to learn 'The fisher king blues'...?

If I get annoyed that Frank doesn't play enough rarities, I remind myself that he opened the Olympic Games with a b-side!

I've been to many shows over the past couple of years, and have found myself bored on a couple of songs, specifically 'I Still Believe' and Peggy'

However I do think Frank is very good with rotation of the setlist. If it was down to me the setlist would be all of 'Sleep Is For The Week' and things like 'Better Half' and 'A Love Worth Keeping'.

It's obvious that Frank can't do this sort of thing on a regular basis as, unless there's a massive coincidence, the shows would be boring for around at least half the crowd.

In terms of the arena tour, I would like to see more of 'Tape Deck Heart' played, such as 'Fisher King Blues' and 'We Shall Not Overcome', and I'd guess Frank and the Souls are planning to play more of it as it'll have been out 10 months.

Thought I'd drag up this thread, since I am a geek who watches set lists of long stretches of gigs that I don't attend.
Considerable setlist shake up starting off gigs with 'Photosynthesis'; TDH tracks 'Fisher King blues' and 'Oh brother' getting included; plus some very interesting regional covers. Would love to have been there.

I went to 4 consecutive shows, and the setlist never felt tired. The energy and crowd interaction has never been higher. But the regional covers are beyond brilliant. So much fun Frank covering: Tom Petty, Townes Van Zandt, NOFX, Blink-182, Jimmy Buffett, REM, Allman Brothers, The Weakerthans,Ben Folds, Shellac, The Hold Steady... And ending the show with I Still Believe, then 4 Simple Words leaves you breathless. Worth getting taken out by a crowd surfer
shows? 70 so far
