What is Punk? Need a laugh

Post by mary » Wed May 08, 2013 12:20 pm

I'm not one for restrictions, most 'supposedly' authentic punks annoy me with all the bullshit rules and limitations as to what Punk is. Generally when someone asks that question it's a dead give away that don't understand the ethos or they wouldn't ask. However I know what punk isn't and this is it .... I had to laugh

Ahhhh so that's why SJP was wearing that ridiculous outfit. I only saw a clip of Jennifer Lawrence photobombing her.

Actually this proves the opposite ... punk is not a temporary attitude. It's about individuality, solidarity and challenging the status quo.

Isn't punk meant to be an attitude, rather than an appearance? I dunno. Very few can claim to be 'punk' without sounding like a bit of a knob. Hell, even John Lydon sounds ridiculous now. I went through a 'punk phase', I took some ideas from it, definitely, stubbornness mainly, I seem to remember. But even aged 19, I'd feel incredibly try-hard hipster if I still dressed like that!

The best parts of that writeup were the descriptions of each person quoted. "Notable reality TV shithead", "pile of wet laundry", etc. Judging people we don't really know? Yes.

But still funny.
