Thoughts on Broken Piano
To me, this is one of the most beautiful songs Frank has ever written, and that's saying a lot. I love all his songs cause of all the emotion he puts into his lyrics, but this song especially touched at my heart. The first time I listened to this song yesterday, when I heard that falsetto my face was just like :O so good!! So, what're y'all's thoughts on this song?
So if I tell you all the little things that I think that I need, would you tell me how to tell the world from the woods from the trees?

Re: Thoughts on Broken Piano
I really love it. The lyrics are great, and I love how the "sinner amongst saved men..." line was incorporated to the album artwork.
Though I haven't listened to the album all the way through and stopped at Broken Piano. I have the deluxe edition, so it goes straight into We Shall Not Overcome after it, which is a bit of a jarring difference in song types. It seems like it'd be a great album finisher... I need to get on to listening to TDH in full sans bonus tracks. Or at very least pausing after Broken Piano.

Definitely my fave song on the album! I love how it builds up from the soft beginning to the bombastic drums in the end, the part when the drums come in is just...wow!! Also I love how he uses his voice in the falsetto parts, the first time I heard it I was like "what? why is he singing like that?" haha, but after a few listens I would not want to have it any other way, it is so right! The whole record is a masterpiece but this song is truly special and I hope that they´ll play it live soon. It´d be an awesome song to end a gig with I think!
I won´t sit down, I won´t shut up and most of all I will not grow up!

I really like the song, but I'm still not convinced by the falsetto. Maybe I'll come round with time.

Re: Thoughts on Broken Piano
I was very unsure, especially of the high bit as it sounded a bit Chris Martin-ish (which makes me want to scratch my eyes out most of the time)
But a few listens and I was able to get past that and once listened to with decent sound I love it and wouldnt have it any other way.

I think I can see the amount of work this song has required, and also its meaning, but frankly it does not hit me the way "Jet lag" did (speaking of a slightly different 12th track).
I am not really bothered by the falsetto thing, I just believe Frank reaches our hearts through other ways though.

I'm agree. I think it has broadly similar intentions as a closer as Jet Lag did. Even though it's a great song I don't think it has anything on Jet Lag.romain wrote:I think I can see the amount of work this song has required, and also its meaning, but frankly it does not hit me the way "Jet lag" did (speaking of a slightly different 12th track).

I adore it. I think it's arguably Frank's best song of all time. I love the lyrics, the melodies and the progression in the song.
I think the line "A sinner amongst saved men on the banks of the muddy Thames" is absolute poetry.

I adore this song. Have to admit it really caught me off-guard when I first heard it, but in a good way. I'm a sucker for men hitting the high notes, for one ... but I also love the lyrics and the build-up. I think it's my second-favorite on the album (behind Tell Tale Signs), though I'm not quite sure yet ... I have a lot of love for a lot of songs.

Re: Thoughts on Broken Piano
love when the drums kick in, would love to see that with a whole host of drummers like Franz do on Outsiders (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbsOPl0WMFg) or with someone like the Dohl Foundation Drummers coming in for a one off (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNX8brjJUFE about 2.40 in) also because I would love to see them again,
they are incredible

Re: Thoughts on Broken Piano
I didn't like it at first but now it's probably my 2nd favorite song on the album.
Re: Thoughts on Broken Piano
By far the best song on the album. It's the only one that really grabbed me and gave me chills on the first listen. Having listened to the album a number of times over the last few days, there's definitely some other good stuff on there, but I always come back to this song as being the best.
Re: Thoughts on Broken Piano
It's alright. Not a patch on Jet Leg, and the falsetto does not work at all for me. But still, the drums are pretty ace.
Lets not settle for satisfaction, we are women and men of action.
