Top 5 Lesser Known Frank Songs

Post by BrianMKroodsma » Tue Mar 26, 2013 2:09 am

Hey everybody. As you all know, Frank's got a lot of fantastic songs that aren't widely known by a lot of people. So I was wondering, what are some of your favorite Frank songs that are not very popular (so exclude songs like I still believe, The road, etc.)
Mine goes:

1. To Absent Friends
2. His cover of 'Build Me Up Buttercup'
3. This Town Ain't Big Enough for the One of Me
4. Romantic Fatigue
5. Richard Divine

I'm not sure about a top 5, but there was a song on the original cd's he sent out before the first album, called Longing For The Day, which wasn't on the physical copies of First 3 Years cd, it was only available through the iTunes download, so that counts as Lesser Known, I guess.

Pass It Along
Sea Legs
Vital Signs
Imperfect Tense
Better Half

His back catalog is WAY too big for just five, ......

Hold Your Tongue, Our Lady of The Campfires, Wisdom Teeth, My Kingdom For A Horse, Richard Divine, Mr Richards, Sunday Nights, A Love Worth Keeping, Back To Sleep, Jet Lag, Must Try Harder, Live Fast Die Old, The Next Round, Nights Become Days, English Curse, Redemption, Wanderlust, Song for Eva Mae, Balthazar Impresario, Sailors Boots....

don't get me started on the stuff he has covered...

(I'd love to see Franks Cover of Black Flag's "Fix Me" sung live)

i think for me lesser known means not singles. vital signs could be more well known if people looked at what he has music videos for (and you know.. if Sleep Is For The Week was ever actually released in america)
[also i realize my statement of singles negates i had "so long" and "fields of june" on my list but theyre SO good and they arent *his* singles so i think im all right 8) ]

Seriously hard question. I don't know that a song being on Sleep is for the Week is enough to qualify it as "lesser known", so I'm going to go with ones I've never heard played live. Also, I'm not counting songs on which he's featured but which aren't actually his songs:

Sea Legs
Sailor's Boots
Wanderlust
My Kingdom for a Horse
Wisdom Teeth
Still hoping to hear any of these live one day (though I'm not holding my breath)!

Honorable mention to "I Really Don't Care What You Did on Your Gap Year", not least for its brilliant title.

Favorite covers (oh, so much goodness):
Smiling at Strangers on Trains
The Outdoor Type
Linoleum
The Quiet One (reminds me of Neruda's poem "Me Gustas Cuando Callas"...but creepier ;-)
Thunder Road
Sally
On a Plain
Must also give a shout-out to "Somebody to Love" because, well, damn--the high notes on that one are no joke!
Brevity is not my forte.
