I don't have any Music Tattoos, but I have what was printed on the back of James Dean Porsche Spyder, in the same style, on my right arm and if anybody who knows James Dean will know what that is and some may find it offensive, if you don't like bad Language. But it means some-thing to me, James Dean was who I was named after and I have always been a fan of his, so I took the plunge and got that done as my first Tattoo.

As Frank said - "It also means that what it means for you will change over time; the way I think about some of my older ink is pretty different to how I thought about it when I got it done. But it still marks time and place, and is important". - I couldn't have said it better.

for about a year or so, i had wanted a frank related tattoo because i was in a completely different place in life before i found his music, and afterwards just from being a fan of it my life changed drastically. i met amazing people, traveled to places i never thought i would and grew tremendously as a person.
i finally got it done in september before a show of his. the actual moment of getting it done was a bit spur of the moment but i had always known what i wanted and where i wanted it (a poetry of the deed bird on my ankle).
music helped me in a way i dont think anything else could have, so i cant imagine it would ever not mean a lot to me.

also the music industry may be corrupt, but your love for music isn't. you dont love the industry, you love the art that just happens to come out of it :)

You've pretty much described all the good reasons for getting one. It's lovely that one tattoo can mean that much! :)

I have the "who'd have thought..." Line from I Still Believe on my back, as well as the Berthold Auerbach quote "Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life" on a stave with a bass clef. I have these two quotes because they summarise perfectly how I feel, and have felt for 20 years, about music. I got the bass clef because at the time bass was my main instrument. These days I play mostly guitar, so although that part is less relevant to my current situation than it was at the time, I don't dislike it or regret it. I also have the images from the covers of Poetry of the Deed, Nirvana's In Utero, Smashing Pumpkins' Mellon Collie, RATM's Battle of LA and Hold Steady's Stay Positive.
I got all these simply because I like the images and because they represent my immense love for music. I can't see that love ever going away, so I don't think I'll ever regret the tattoos.

the fans I have seen via a very massive fan I know are still wearing theirs proudly
the band is more than just one guy and the music has had far more positive impacts on their lives than what their singer has done.
They are pretty distraught by the whole thing but they haven't lost the reason they got their tattoos in the first place. Which I guess is the point of the thread.

sooooo I would say regardless of what the music industry is about, the art and music can and will reach much further than what an business model can achieve.
Even overcoming what the artists themselves do.
Anything like music obviously becomes very personal and a lyric will always be about that moment in time when you felt that way.
That permanence is exactly why I wanted a tattoo and I got a hieroglyph because I love the history of Ancient Egypt and that it stands of truth and Justice which is the code I wish to live my life by. So again becomes a personal take on a word, lyric or symbol

However my next tattoo will be music related and I have the rough outline in my head.
I think there will be times you will or can doubt your decision but once you have it its always going to be there so better to love it right?

love the sound of your tat, had a bit of a fixation with James Dean when I was younger, love the films from that era.

Other than a biffy logo and lyric tattoo, my frank tattoo says 'be what you believe'. For me, it sums up frank's ethos pretty well, and is a guide for me in how I should live my life. My job, my decisions, my religion (none) so it doesn't just reference frank. I love it. Reminds me of what's important.

I got the FTHC logo with crossbones tattooed on my thumb a couple of days ago. I love it. I'm booked in for another Frank inspired one on my foot at the end of the month. I emailed Frank a photo of my thumb and he said it was awesome!!

I have lyrics from 'Smiling at Strangers' tattoo'd across my shoulders. Obviously I love the song, and the lyric, but there were other reasons I chose that particular line, which I believe will still be true/relevant to me in years to come, despite differing from Frank's original meaning.

I have always considered a tattoo but I'm really terrified of the pain. I'm basically a wimp with pain; I didn't get my ears pierced until I was 19 because I was so scared! I just need to pluck up the courage as I know what I would get and where.

I always knew what my first tattoo would be from the age of about 13/14 i went in a few tattoo shops and left before they started. One had ink in the needle and was less then 1cm away.
I was probably 25 before i got it done. The outline was fine till i looked down and saw a tiny amount of blood with the ink. We had to take a break. I firmly believe the only reason i felt sick was because i had worked myself up so much and wanted it so bad for so long. I don't remember it hurting at all. I now have six, the one on the back of my shoulder i sat watching his iTunes he has some ace songs on it. Im sure i fell asleep

That sounds very reassuring! I think I will get one at some point, just need to pluck up the courage!

I have "I Still Believe" and "let's grab life by the throat and live it to pieces" tattoos, as well as "it may not be much, but at least we're not waiting to die" from Mr Marwood's Singalong (he, and his dear mother, went nuts when they saw it, and both kissed me, but that's for another day...)

I firmly believe that I'll never ever regret them and as Frank says, they show I've lived (along with the other 12 of them)

Happy days!

I was about to ask you if Marwood had seen it. That's really cool.
