Gonna use this thread for my top 10 gigs of the year so here goes:

(In no particular order)

The Futureheads - Glee Club, Nottingham, April.
This was the night before Wembley. It was a fantastic gig with The Futureheads either performing a Capella or doing blues grass arrangements of their own songs. They also got their support, The Cornshed Sisters to help on some songs.

Frank Turner - Leamington Spa Assembly, November
Didn't think Wolves could be topped but Leamington had by far the better setlist. The crowd were fab and the security had a sense of humour. They even waltzed during Four Simple Words. The venue itself was beautiful, it's just a shame the club nigh after was shitty

Black Keys - Notts Arena, February
Fabulous set from The Black Keys. Loved how it went back to being just the two of them onstage for the older songs.

Rammstein - Notts Arena, March
My friends wanted to be near the front so we ended up 4th row. They put on a fantastic show.

Muse - Birmingham LG, October
Very happy to see The Joy Formidable supporting. Muse also put on a fantastic live show and it made me fall in love with the new album. Was good to see the bassist doing lead vocals on a song too.

Elbow - Nottingham Arena, November
I thought their show at Jodrell Bank would have beaten this but this gig won because I got my 3 favourite Elbow songs (The Birds, Mirrorball, Fugitive Motel) and they also threw in Grace Under Pressure, which along with Fugitive Motel, they hardly ever play these days.

Max Raptor - Radar Love @ The Venue, Derby, March
Had heard two friends (one being H26) rave about them. Didn't pay them any attention before. They blew me away and became one of my favourite new bands this year.

Billy Lunn (The Subways), Vic Inn, Derby, November
Didn't know what to expect as had only seen The Subways. But it was a fantastic gig. Similar to a Frank gig in that everyone was singing along to every word. He even got a girl out of the crowd to do Charlotte's bits for some songs. The songs translated into acoustic versions really well.

Captain Dangerous, Rescue Room, Nottingham,
This was their album launch and they had an 18 piece orchestra with them for the occasion. With a lot of family and friends there (they're a local band) there was an awesome atmosphere in the place.

Lancashire Hotpots - Rescue Rooms, Nottingham, November
This was the night after Revival Tour. The two gigs were completely different. I've never had as much fun at a gig as I did this one. As well as the comedy songs, there were puppets and dance routines, peg fights (never understood the reason behind that) and a conga around the venue.

Enter Shikari ... although I had a very limited selection to choose from. Hopefully I will be getting to more gigs in 2013 than I did in 2012.
Kingston - 680, SBE - 730, Union Chapel - 770, Kingston 10 - 772, Glastonbury 2010 (Queens Head - 870 / Strummerville - 871), Roundhouse (iTunes 2010) - 881, Strummerville - 1000, Kingston 11 - 1031.

Quite hard to pick the best gig of 2012 for two reasons; 1) didn't go to a huge number of gigs in 2012. 2) none of them were absolutely outstanding. Only 14 music gigs and one festival in a whole year?? That's pathetic. Anyway, contenders for the best are Frank in Darlington, Steve Vai in Newcastle, Carter USM/Neds Atomic Dustbin at Brixton Academy and PiL headlining Beautiful Days Festival.

In view of the fact that I didn't see Frank in 2012, and went to very few gigs due to a medical problem, I'm going to alienate everyone here by saying Coldplay. Mind you, the Hugh Cornwell acoustic gig was impressive as well. No lasers, though. :?

2012: Donots (two times :)) and also two times the Dropkick Murphys. No Linkin Park or whatever festival headliner could top them.
And for 2013...surprise, Dropkick Murphys again. Together with Frank Turner.
