I would imagine this is a thread that comes up often, but would love to hear some of your favourites.

Mine change all the time - but right now - for a number of personal reasons these lines hit home over and over ..

ONE FOOT BEFORE THE OTHER
I’m not convinced of the existence of these things that don’t exist
Yeah by Jewish boys with big ideas and scratches on their wrist
By a loving or a vengeful God
Or one who condescends
Who’ll wash his hands down in the mire among the misery of men
Or by ever turning circles hanging timeless in the sky
Like a dream catcher distracting from the fact you’re gonna die
REDEMPTION
Well I tried so hard to not turn into my father
But if I only ever skip out his choices will I ever choose better

My favourite at the moment is, 'well I'm young enough to be all pissed off, and I'm old enough to be jaded'

I just like to way it rolls of the tongue.

Right now this verse from Tell Tale Signs is meaningful to me because it opened dialogue between my daughter and I.

TELL TALE SIGNS
know you kinda remind me of scars on my arms,
That I made when I was a kid,
With a disassembled disposable razor I stole from my dad,
When I thought that suffering was something profound,
That weighed down wise heads,
And not just something to be avoided,
Something normal people dread.

I'll go with the chorus from Wisdom Teeth

And suddenly it's as clear as clear could be
I'm not quite the perfect man that I hoped I'd be.
And though I always tried to live an honest life,
To tell my truth I've told my share of lies.

Like everything else I have difficulty picking just one….

Considering the year I’ve had and yet am still trying to get to gigs I guess this has a lot of resonance right now

Real Damage

I had to ask myself, well,
Is it really worth it?
Is any of this worth it?
Well the whole thing’s far from perfect,
But I’ve yet to figure out a better way to spend my time.

Vital Signs

I’ll be dead but never dying, and I say that with a smile
It’s just my way of trying to be alive.

Imperfect Tense

Breaking, I’m shaking, it’s taking a long, long time to come down off this murderous medication,
trying to remember my reasons for running myself into the ground with such dedication.

A Love Worth Keeping

I guess you never know loss till you have something to lose,
choice till you have something to choose.

The Road

Ever since my childhood I’ve been scared, I’ve been afraid,
Of being trapped by circumstance, of staying in one place,
And so I always keep a small bag full of clothes carefully stored,
Somewhere secret, somewhere safe, somewhere close to the door.

Sunday Nights
Sunday nights are slow surrender.
It never lasts and we never learn.
We can still make this one to remember.
It’s Sunday night and we’ve time to burn.
Tomorrow morning can wait its turn.

I Still Believe

Now who’d've thought, after all,
Something as simple as rock ‘n’ roll would save us all?
Who’d've thought that after all it was rock n roll.

Pass It Along

Sing till you sweat for the spirit of the age,
Sing life to lines that are dead on the page,
Sing for your sorrow, your wisdom, your rage, sing out.
Sing for the records you played till they broke,
For the parts where you insisted that nobody spoke
Sing for the words that you know but they still make you choke
Sing out.

I Am Disappeared

And on the worst days, when it feels like life weighs ten thousand tons,
I sleep with my passport, one eye on the backdoor, so I can always run.
I could get up, shower and in half an hour I’d be gone.

One Fine Day

Just give me one fine day of plain sailing weather
And I can fuck up anything, anything

Tell Tale Signs

These tell tale signs are here to stay
And in the end you know that's okay
Cause you will always be a part
Of my patchwork patched up taped up tape deck heart
1084 Kilkenny, 1088 Dublin, 1139 Newport, 1255 Frome, 1301 Southampton, 1303 Bath, 1307 Cork, 1308 Galway, 1310 Dublin, 1324 Dublin. Manchester, Leeds, Bristol, Birmingham, Southampton, 2000 Trees Cave, 2000 Trees Main Stage...many...lots

Sunday Nights
Once more friends unto the breach, bleary-eyed,
the stuff of dreams always slips out of reach.

You can't catch up on sleep..

Tell Tale Signs
You should mean more to me right now,
than just heartbreak in a short skirt.

(stupid song* premiered 2 days before I fully dumped by a girl I'd been seeing on and off for a few years.)

Rock and Roll Romance
You and I could have a rock and roll romance,
we could fuck in our clothes and sleep in our pants.

Heartless Bastard Motherfucker
I'm not dying inside well I'm dead,
Yeah, too many people have fucked with my head,
And now I'm out for revenge.

You never own up to what you did -
You fuck like an adult and you cry like a kid,
And then you tell your friends I took the piss.

My Kingdom for a Horse
And I'd trade it all for just 5 minutes more
of your wondering hands with their simple demands.
I'd rather be the one who loves than to be loved and never even know.

Paupers and Kings
Princes and thieves
Singers or songs
Writers of wrongs
Be what you believe
So saddle your horse
Shoulder your load
Burst at the seams
Be what you dream then take to the road

I have the line in bold tattoo'd to me.

It varies depending on what's going on around me at the time.

Today is the anniversary of the death of one of the best friends I ever had. So "You'll live to dance another day, it's just now you'll have to dance, for the two of us." is my current favorite.

Then of course I'll always love "I still believe that everyone, can find a song for every time they've lost, and every time they've won"
~Susan

I dance for Cam and Bradley

Love, Ire and Song -
Well that's a fucking cop-out, you're just washed up and you're tired.

Reasons not to be an idiot -
I bet she thinks that life wont leave any traces, caught up like everyone else
But that's not the point anyway.

Ballad of me and my friends
No-one left alive will really care, about our glory days
when we sold our souls.

Try this at home
Let's stop waiting around for someone to patronise us.

They all are just such great writing :')

to answer my own question: like everyone else it's always changing but right now...

Glory Hallelujah

I know you’re scared of dying man, and I am too,
But just pretending it’s not happening isn’t going to see us through.

Poetry Of The Deed

Let’s grab life by the throat and live it to pieces.

I''ll probably add to this loads of times haha.

Photosynthesis

And if all you ever do with your life
Is photosynthesize
Then you'll deserve every hour of your sleepless nights
That you waste wondering when you're gonna die

My current favourites are:

Love, Ire & Song
"If we're stuck on this ship and it's sinking, then we might as well have a parade."

Hold Your Tongue
"So hold your goddamn tongue, you forget yourself."

St Christopher Is Coming Home
"The kind of night when nothing really happens but everything goes down."

The Ballad of Me and My Friends
"But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight. We're going nowhere slowly but we're seeing all the sights."

Long Live the Queen
"You'll live to dance another day."

A thousand times YES. Pretty much everything Bella said, with the addition of "I still believe in the need/for guitars and drums and desperate poetry".

I honestly cannot pick at all. To my ear, Frank is foremost a poet and I don't know that I can come up with a song of his that doesn't have some level of lyrical brilliance. Glory Hallelujah has great personal significance to me, and Wanderlust and Balthazar, Impresario both make me swell with emotion as well.

But seriously, all of 'em. I've changed my mind about which of his lyrics I want tattooed on me about 20 times, and am still not sure!
Making someone feel that it is okay for them to be exactly who they are is the greatest kindness one human being can do for another.

Always make 'em laugh, try to make 'em cry-- always take the stage like it's the last night of your life.
