Record Store Day 2012

Post by Tension Head » Wed Mar 07, 2012 12:23 pm

Frank Turner - New single ‘I Still Believe’/’Somebody To Love’ released 21st April 2012.

Image
Following Frank Turner’s epic headline show at London’s Wembley Arena on 13th April 2012, a very special limited edition double A-side 7” single of ‘I Still Believe’/Somebody To Love’ will hit the shops for this year’s Record Store Day.

A rousing declaration of Frank’s unwavering faith in music ‘I Still Believe’ is a call to arms for those who are enraptured by the simplicity and power of “guitar and drums and desperate poetry”. A live favourite, this track has had crowds all over the world passionately shouting the title refrain creating the unity and solidarity so distinctive to Frank’s gigs.

His cover of Queen’s ‘Somebody To Love’ has also become a live classic since he first performed it in the UK during his secret set on the Lock Up Stage at Reading & Leeds in 2011. Having performed on the Main Stage earlier on in the day, his second set was a triumphant show full of surprises and joy, and became one of the main talking points of the weekend.
This is the first time Frank has laid down this track and it is only available on this release.
It will be released digitally on 30th April 2012.

No idea if XM will be releasing it on their own store but I've updated the original post with a link to find participating stores.

I find it slightly odd that an song released nearly a year and a half ago is a "new single"...

I don't think it is supposed to be a new single, so much as a special Record Store Day release. Lots of people re-release old stuff as a limited edition for RSD. Plus there is a new track (cover), which is not going to be available elsewhere from what I gather.

I love vinyl but I hate these days! There are always several things I want but I generally miss out as there aren't any record stores in Birmingham anymore! Last year I tried to get the glassjaw vinyl so went along to the shop mentioned on the website and they knew nothing about it at all! Much happier when I can buy things online. Plus without sounding too much like a grumpy old man I hate it when some kid that doesn't have a record player will be able to get one of these and I won't!

I've already booked the day off work. Really tempted to go to Crash Records in Leeds, because the two stores in Nottingham split the releases between them so its a dilemma which one to queue for.

It will probably happen in Leeds too as both Crash and Jumbo participate in RSD.

Judging by previous years, Crash had pretty much everything I wanted.
