Discography Help

Post by SanDimas1988 » Sat Jan 21, 2012 6:15 pm

I created a discography that's as comprehensive as I can find. I'm wondering if I could get fans' help to see if my information is correct, if I'm missing anything, or you can confirm some of the promos I guessed there are but couldn't verify. I'm only going with things that have physical copies, not downloads. Sorry it's not formatted the best, I copied it from my Excel spreadsheet. Thanks

You're missing some vinyl colours and promos. I will try and update it with what I know is missing later. But for instance, there is a red vinyl of LIS, and The First Three Years came in two different colour releases, ans Campfire had three colourways. Some of the split singles are incomplete too.

Of the above? I don't have the Epitaph black vinyl of LIS or POTD, the black vinyl EKMB, the black or solid yellow vinyl of Campfire Punkrock, or any vinyl of Rock And Roll...but I have the rest...

Thanks for the help, discogs.com had a lot of information. I'm still split on whether I needed to buy every variant of vinyl and cd. You have a hell of a lot Evan.

I do have a lot. And more than listed above. I have demos, promos, test presses and blah blah blah... I gave up trying to get the variants as it just became really difficult. I have a load of 7"s in the different colours and stuff, but then we had a kid and I ran out of money. I want the gold version of RnR, but otherwise I am happy.

I found a promo the other day I didnt even know existed. I think it was Try This At Home, with Build Me up Buttercup and another track. I thought "I should take a picture of this" and then shoved it in a box and forgot all about it.

If that version of Try This At Home is the promo version, I actually just bought it on discogs.com this Saturday.

The split with Austin Lucas is impossible to find, I've never seen it on sale anywhere. The Reasons Not to Be An Idiot is always super expensive. I wish I had been collecting this stuff longer than the last few months.

Yeah, I preordered the Austin Lucas thing (on all colours) and went to the launch party for the Reasons 7", so they weren't hard to get hold of. There is one colour of the Tim Barry split I dont have, as they ended up pressing some they werent planning to on Black, and because I ordered all three colours they sent me black instead of blue or something.

I keep meaning to take pictures of it all, but never quite get round to it.

Where do those promos come from, and any idea how many copies there are of each? I've seen 2 of them for sale on xtramile's site, but mostly I only see them on eBay. Are they given out to people, or did I just not see them on sale?

They come from the record company, and are sent out to journalists and the like pre-release to try and drum up interest for articles, reveiws etc etc. No idea how many are made, but it's probably a few hundred (dpending on the release). They are becoming less and less used these days, as they do watermarked streams instead.

Discogs.com had 4 of the promos for sale that I couldn't confirm if they existed in my original post. Any idea if there's a promo cd for Long Live the Queen (not talking about the split)? Also, is the only EKMB promo the sampler, as his other albums all have full album promos?

This would be so much easier if I lived in the UK and could have a better chance of getting these things, rather than buying from eBay and paying a lot more than I want to.

EKMB had no physical promo to my knowledge. They did watermarked MP3s for it, as they did with Poetry Of The Deed. I have not seen a physical promo of either, although that does not mean they don't exist, but I am fairly sure they do not exist.

As far as I am aware, there was no promo for LLTQ. That said, at the time it would have been in keeping to put a one track promo out to radio, but I dont think i ever got one, if it did exist. There is a test press of the split 7" with Crazy Arm out there (10 copies I think - might be less) if you really want to get on the hunt, although I would have no idea where to begin with that as I dont think any were given out (although I have one, as XMR didn't have a turntable when it came in, and someone needed to check it).

I actually just bought the Poetry of the Deed promo on discogs.

Thanks for the info on LLtQ. There's no way I'd ever be able to find (or afford) the test pressing. I can't find some of the albums that had much larger pressings. And it wouldn't surprise me if there is a cd promo, it's the only single I can't confirm, and some of the other singles only have 1 track on them (Photosynthesis and The Road come directly to mind)

Any idea how rare The Real Damage EP is? I actually found a copy still sealed.
