This newer version of PHPBB lets you delete/block a lot easier. Mass delete by ticking, etc. I had a board set up for manual verification, if you can get a couple of trusted people to do that then it should lessen your load and let no spam bots through - it's far quicker on here and you don't need a plugin like the last version.

Well I like the grey on grey, it's easier on my eyes as it's not such a stark contrast.

I'm still getting used to the change, but i am starting to like it. I must admit i miss the old colour scheme though.

In brief: I'm working on a new style for the board. This one isn't permanent, it was just to get the forum back online after having had it down for five difficult days, rather than the planned 24 hours.

Annoyingly, it wasn't possible to move the custom style from the old board over, so trying to put something fresh together. Am taking note of all your comments.

Spambots we're having fun with, but we think we've stopped them from being able to register. At least for now. Some residual ones are still around, we're watching them closely.

Cheers!

I've noticed that topics remain 'unread' after I leave the forum and come back, where as before they'd automatically get set to 'read'.

Personally I preferred the old way, clicking "mark topics as read" is more effort than before, though admittedly not a huge amount.

Any chance while you're at it you can alter the .htaccess to 301 all URLs to www.frank-turner.com (or the otherway around - at least the new forum is better than the old for that, used to give me no end of problems)

Any chance of moving the 'save draft' and 'submit' buttons around? I keep on going to save draft when I want to submit, unless its only me doing this (probably the case)

There's a guy called "Frank" He suspiciously uses only his first name and seems to be hacking a colour-code onto his name (I'd watch out for that one)

Seriously though, the look of the forum obviously needs work. I mean I'm not a very grey person or anything but It doesn't really matter in the great scheme, but I'm a perfectionist when It comes to these things. I would have probably spent ages frustrating myself with colour dropping the background of the banner so It wasn't a logo in a box and the avatars would be back on the left. Then again, who really cares? Change doesn't bother me much.

Pretty much what I'm doing. As you can imagine, hacking CSS and image editing is hugely thrilling, so I limit myself to doing it in short chunks so I don't get overwhelmed by the elation of it all.

It is taking shape. And it won't be grey. And the text will be bright white. Perhaps too bright, having to tone it down again. And the avatars will be back on the left. Draft button has gone, most of you will have noticed, and the spambots seem to have been beaten, only to be replaced by spamhumans. Grr.

I hope it'll be worth it, though.

Lack of SSL?

Come on guys... it's 2013. Absolutly no reason an authentication system of any kind should be done without SSL. At the very least the login page should be fully encrypted and ideally the entire form to prevent cookie hijacking.

Lack of SSL also makes me wonder about the password hashing and saulting. Is Frank going to get more famous for providing comprimised system to leak username, email, passwords?

Interesting point about SSL - I guess for a lot of bands and artists they don't store user data on their server ... Or maybe they do?

Prob one to ask the company who host the site and implement on the forum. Is the rest of the site https?
