Frank's demoed a few more songs recently - some serious, some not so - and here's my crack at three of them. The other new one - called "Four Simple Words" - will be beyond my grasp until I can get a clearer version.

Anyway, here's Wherefore Art Thou, Gene Simmons:
"Wherefore Art Thou, Gene Simmons"

Mother said "Beware the boys in bands"
And "Certainly don't let them write you songs"
Well they'll come to you on bended knee
And they'll kiss your pretty hands

When the singing's done and the sun's up they'll be gone

Though mother has a point I might resent the implication
That every boy who plays guitar plays women like Gene Simmons

Four thousand six hundred photographs
Stuck into a scrapbook beneath your bed
Four thousand five hundred ninety nine broken hearts
And one more you can't get out of your head

And though he swears he can remember every pair of lips he's kissed
Deep down he's scared there's one or two that he might have missed

Oh Chaim Weitz, wherefore art thou?
Does your mother know how you live now?

Not that I can point the finger
I've been a sinner just the same
Fallen hard in love in motels
And by sunrise lost her name

I have wandered past the drywalls
Through the deserts to the seas
And in the pocket of my jacket
Kept my last fidelity

It may be quite the broken plastic compass that someone gave to me
That can't find north anymore

Just like me

Oh Gene Simmons, wherefore art thou?
I could sure use a hand on my shoulder now

If fidelity runs love
Then I guess I'll have to choose
In life the things you love
Some you keep and some you lose
Note: In another version of the song, Frank sings "A sailing ship and a broken plastic compass..." instead of "It may be quite the broken plastic compass...". He sure does his love his nautical imagery.

Next, Tattoos:
"Tattoos"

It's payday oh it's payday
I got my paycheque from the man
There's not so many jobs that I can get these days
With these marks all over my hands

But I'm gonna take my cheque and head across the track
To the wrong side of this town
I'm gonna open the door and gonna bask in the awe
Of that familiar needle buzzing sound

Because the ink in my skin where the needle went in
However many years ago
Has left marks on my arms and they say who I am
Everywhere that I go

Some people have none and some have one they're ashamed of
Most people think that we're fools
Some people don't get it and some people don't care
Some of us we have tattoos

Oh it's fading yes it's fading
Some of the things that I believed back then
Well the ink has started running and my skin has started sagging
I've got buddy tattoos with people who aren't my friends

I've even got black x's from back when I was straight-edged
So crack open a beer friends and let's make a pledge
If we had the right to live our time once more
We'd get the same tattoos as before

Because the ink in my skin where the needle went in
However many years ago
Has left marks on my arms and they say who I am
Everywhere that I go

Some people have none and some have one they're ashamed of
Most people think that we're fools
Some people don't get it and some people don't care
Some of us we have tattoos

We've got hearts for the lovers
Playing cards for the gamblers
Black flag bars for the punks
Sailing ships for the ramblers

We've got skulls for the living
And the pain pays our dues
Some of us we have tattoos
Some of us we have tattoos

Some of us we have tattoo-oo-oos
Some of us we have tattoos
Lastly, the preliminary skeleton of Time Machine. This was substantially harder haha.
"Time Machine"

I'm-a gonna build myself a time machine
Of particle physics and a power __________
And run on ______ oil and Donnie Darko daydreams

Tonnes of ________ and a hunting rifle
Change of underwear and some __________

Thanks for that Dubra! I didn't hear Time Machine til you put it up.

Some corrections.

Drinking in Deadwood in the 1880's.

Let's go back and we'll see

Tell it to me false.

The truth the real reason that I built this machine
was to just travel back a couple of years
to when we first met before the fight and tears
I'd rather be the one who loves than to be loved and never even know.

"We have Roman's at our wrists"

I couldn't tell whether Frank was being anti-semitic or just lazy, then it hit me. :|

First of all, Dubras, huge thanks for putting these up. Secondly, I have not listened to "Wherefore Art Thou..." with the lyrics you posted, and don't really have time to tonight. That said, just from glancing, I'm pretty certain that the line where you typed "Oh, kind lie" is in fact, "Oh, Chaim" as the versions of the song I watched on YouTube included Frank's preface about how Gene Simmons's birth name is Chaim Weitz.

But again, thanks for your efforts!
Brevity is not my forte.

I don't know if this counts, but when I pull up a live version of Four Simple Words I pretty much murmur the entire thing and then sing passionately "I WANT TO DANCE!" followed by more murmuring.

Great version of "Four Simple Words" still cannot make out the incredibly fast part. I don't think I ever will.

based on this video i tried my best to type out the lyrics. i cant make out a lot of it, which is depressing

because we’re all so very twenty first century
you’re probably listening to me on some form of portable stereo
maybe you’re sitting on the back of the bus
or it’s running up your sleeve and your sat across from your boss
or you’re sitting in your bedroom on your own with the lights down low
(lights down low)

i’d like to teach you four simple words
so that the next time you come to a show
you can sing those words back at me
like they’re the only words that you know…

i want to dance, i want to dance
i want lust and love and a smattering of romance
but im no good at dancing
yet i have to do something
tonight im gonna play it straight
im gonna take my chance
i want to dance

hi ho hi ho hi ho
we’re nearly heading out to the punk rock show
?????????
this is my culture? man, this is my home
?????????
?????????
?????????
?????????

i want to dance, i want to dance
i want lust and love and a smattering of romance
but im no good at dancing
yet i have to do something
tonight im gonna play it straight
im gonna take my chance
i want to dance

if anything else the music ________
?????????
it’s all sex, drugs and sin?
?????????
but it’s ok cause we don’t really mean it
i want ______
?????????
?????????
?????????
?????????
?????????
just to do it all again the next day

i want to dance, i want to dance
i want lust and love and a smattering of romance
but im no good at dancing
yet i have to do something
tonight im gonna play it straight
im gonna take my chance
i want to dance

so put your hands on your hips
and bring your knees in tight
we’re gonna do this shit together man
no fists? no fights? (2x)

i tried to save the world
some people think like us
it’s just one of those _______
no _____, no fuss
?????????
?????????
the roof is on fire
and we're gonna put it out
forget about your bitching and remember that you’re blessed
?????????
?????????

somebody told me that music with guitars
was going out of fashion
and i had to laugh
?????????
the way i fell in love?
the hipsters? and ______
i don’t give a fuck!

i want to dance. i want to dance
i want me some lust
some love, and a smattering of that old time romance
but i’m no good at dancing
yet i have to do something
tonight i’m gonna play it straight i’m gonna take my chance
yeah i want to dance
(ooooohhhhhhh, ooooohhhh)
i want to dance
i want you and me both down hand in hand in ____
(ooooohhhhhhh, ooooohhhh)
?????????
?????????
?????????
(ooooohhhhhhh, ooooohhhh)
?????????
?????????
FOOOOOURRR SIMPLE WORDS.

I'm probably not at all good candidate to do this, since I can't pick up on what people are saying half the time even in normally paced conversation, but what the hell, here's my best guesses at this point. Apologies if I'm way off (though I suppose since we're in the misheard lyrics thread, that'd fit). I look forward to eventually finding out the full lyrics on this song, as I absolutely adore it. I remember telling my friend after we heard it in St. Louis, "that song is one of the best things to happen to mankind." I stand by that opinion, haha.

Jesus Diesel, you have some hearing there! Those lyrics definitely sound like something frank would write so I'm gonna take it as pretty much it.

That's sick though, noone should be able to hear all that!!! A Witch I tells ya!

We should probably wait and see how much of it is right, haha. It helped to hear it live a bunch of times. I don't really have any secret other than maybe my selective hearing has been heightened by years of trying to figure out what people are saying on a half-broken phone in a loud newsroom. I would have thought between concerts, ear infections and working on loud cars, I'd be deaf by now.
While I'm at this, I think Frank's time machine runs on diesel oil (and the aforementioned Donnie Darko daydreams) and is built on particle physics and the power of steam? Cool song, I hadn't heard it before Dubras mentioned it.

I swear I'm normally a notorious lyric botcher. Then again knowing lyrics and singing them correctly are different matters. Even in songs I've known for ages, I'm forever shouting the wrong verse or transposing words, haha.
High-five for being at loads of the same shows! (I was even planning on Wembley too ... alas, my job devoured my hopes and dreams.)
