The Officially Unofficial FT Cover Thread

Post by aza484 » Mon Oct 05, 2009 3:58 pm

Greetings ladies and germs!

So I have a rather annoying and completely un-ignorable compulsion to try to cover nearly every song FT releases, and a more annoying tendancy to then play them live at my gigs. Resulting in being nicknamed "the frank turner guy" while I was at uni (something I consider a compliment, however I would still prefer to be known for my own material...).

Anywho, the thought occurred to me that I can't be the only one, so I figured I'd start this thread and invite one and all to share with the rest of us your covers. Any digital media delivery service can be used (i.e. online hosting like megaupload or sharebee (hint)... try to avoid rapidshit though :P ), or even better something like youtube.

I would start us off myself, but all my hordes of covers are in the same place online and I wouldn't want to swamp you, so I'll try and think of some way of separating them off...

Excited? You should be! :D Get your covers in guys!

I dont know whether it counts or not, but when I'm drunk with my friends, I usually sing the Ballad of me and my friends, and, as you'd expect, we perform it probably 10 times better than Frank..

I've been known to butcher Love, Ire, and Song on occasion.

Ooh brave! Does it go down well though? Much like Prufrock, I'm too scared to play that live.

Can go either way, i've played it at house shows and people love it, then when I played it at Whitburn Miners Welfare Association at an all dayer filled with crust Punx, it didn't.

I think its my favourite Turner song.

I play Love Ire & Song and Thatcher.... live. LI&S goes down quite well and I've been approached by local Labour MPs after I've played Thatcher saying "It's nice to see young people take an interest in politics".

I reckon once I learn it, Try This At Home'll be in my set for a bit

Nope, was just doing an open mic night at a pub up the road from where I live. Usually noone pays attention to the lyrics cause the sound is dire. But these local politicians/campainers must have just been out.

Purely coinsidental I swear

I played Thatcher and Huntsman to a crowd of middle-class Thespians at uni last year.

Didn't go down so well...

I suspect that to be half true.
