This is because I refuse to believe that abuse on the internet is directed more at women and is worse as it includes threats of rape.

I'm somewhat peeved that abuse on the internet suddenly only now is worthy in the eyes of the Guardian etc, because it is stopping 'women have freedom of speech'.

A veteran of many a flame war over the past 14 years, which has included harassment (including sexual), death threats and trying to deliberately split up me and my other half I'm completely baffled at why its taken so long and why its a feminist issue. Only last week the husband got death threats on a cycling forum!

I've seen everything from men being accused of paedophila; a man being harrassed by another guy that has extended to contacting work colleagues, family and friends; a man being accused of beating women up until the girlfriend concerned go so angry she posted herself and contacted various people in RL as she was so upset about what had been falsely said about her other half; to posting of naked pictures of a girl (which the subject sent to 10 different men on the same forum) she was claiming she was being sexually harassed. Some of these have led to police involvement.

Years and years ago.

But no, now its a feminist issue. It only happens to women and now we should all be sitting up and taking notice. Cos it involves threats of rape.

So yeah I thought I'd have a rant on here, as well, its not full of a bunch of women and is home to a few other flame war vets and closet trolls. And guys. I like guys. They don't spout anywhere near as much BS. I guess this is because none of them have ever had threats of violence directed at them. Ever.
I didn't know which bit to quote, I agree with it all. My mate was hit by his girlfriend twice, nobody asked if he was okay, but she got to go to counselling and everyone was worried about her, not him. Feminism is seemingly no longer for the equality of women, women now seem to want a matriarchal society, being totally hypocritical of what feminism supposedly stands for. Urgh. I'd write more, and write something more eloquently, but I have a history essay to write. Yay.

Roqueandrolle THANK YOU!

I was beginning to think I was loosing the plot. I have learnt that you should never argue with someone who calls themselves a feminist... mainly because the term seems to be defined as someone who is narrowminded and not willing to listen to anyone else.

I think I'm actually happy at being called an anti-feminist now. I'd rather have another box to pigeonhole myself into!

I don't know if I want to kill the maker of Skyrim or Xbox. I haven't decided.
How can one game be that addictive?

However, I care not, getting my head down to get some extra work done, so the mild skiving i'm doing for frank next week can be justified as "i'm almost up to date so it doesn't matter"

Which is bollocks, but that's what i'm sticking with.

Hahaha. Google Translate is always helpful, even use it when I have to read texts in French in my school.

I didn't mean "school", because in spanish it means "escuela", I wanted to say... mmm... ¿university? ¿college? ¿faculty? Fuck.

I managed to get given a spare to Cast's XFM gig, made third gig of a slightly extended weekend. Only 5 songs, but it was pretty good and cheered me up no end. (And yes, I know Cast will be met with much derision here).

My mum is having major back surgery today at 3:30. She's been injured for 18 months after an argument with a blackberry bush, garden fence and a dining chair. I've watched her change from being my mum to being a drugged up zombie who hardly recognises me some days. They put her on a cocktail of drugs that as a result has rotted her stomach lining to the point where she can't eat (because they didnt give her the other drug to prevent this from happening for 7 months). She was left in hospital for 6 days in January waiting on an MRI scan after being told it was "just sciatica" and "what do you expect at your age?". She's 53. She had treatment in March which did nothing and was told to "get on with her life" as her case wasn't serious enough to spend any more time on.

I have huge respect for the NHS but it's situations like these that make me furious. 6 doctors and 5 different opinions, how is that possible? 1 week before she was due to have this surgery her surgeon tripped and fell breaking his foot which required SURGERY to fix. He didnt have to wait 18 months though, oh no.

However the fact she is now actually in hospital with some kind of end in sight is such a relief, I can barely contain my excitement. Of course the length of time involved means I'm terrified it wont actually help. But the possibility, the chance that this will be the beginning of her recovering is such a wonderful feeling. I wish I could be there with her right now instead of at work. So to everyone who reads this, go tell your mum how fucking ace she is, cuz I most certainly will be first chance I get.
