The Decemberists and synth pop

Post by Sivvy » Sun Jan 21, 2018 8:02 am

Are there any Decemberists fans in here? Curious to hear thoughts on their new direction if so, especially given that they too seem to have swapped the acoustic guitars for electronica (must be something in the water).

Having grown up with (and hated) 80s synth pop the first time round, it’s taking me a while to retrain my ears, but it’s a great song with some solid political messages. This could be a very interesting year for music. Less so for guitar shops . . .

I am a big Decemberists fan. I really like the new song. I think it's good for bands to change things up and try new directions. They have a massive range of styles anyway, from sea shanties to prog rock concept albums to jangly hipster acoustic to country to contemporary indie rock... that's why they're so good
